Nguyen Huu Khanh Ngoc, Director of Tri An Hydropower Company, confirmed that this is the first time in 2025 that the largest hydropower reservoir in Southern Vietnam has had to open its spillway gates.

According to hydrological data at 12:00 PM on the same day, the upstream water level of Tri An reservoir reached 60.9m, while the inflow into the reservoir reached 1,960 m³/s, much higher than the amount of water discharged through the power generation turbines (780 m³/s).

To ensure sufficient flood control capacity, the company decided to release water through the spillway. From 13:00 on September 30th, Tri An Hydropower Plant opened one spillway gate with a flow rate of 160 m³/s, raising the total amount of water released downstream to 910 – 980 m³/s. By 16:00, the company continued to open a second spillway gate, increasing the total amount of water released downstream to 1,070 – 1,140 m³/s.

The Tri An Hydropower Company stated that, depending on weather conditions and the water level of the Tri An hydropower reservoir, as well as the downstream water level at the Bien Hoa hydrological station, the discharge rate may continue to be adjusted.

Tri An Hydropower Company has notified the Civil Defense Committee and local authorities to coordinate warnings, helping people in downstream areas proactively respond and minimize damage.
