On the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), on April 25, the Embassy of Sweden in Vietnam and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism jointly organized the Award Ceremony of the documentary film "Victory Vietnam" at the Vietnam Film Institute.

On April 30, 1975, as a cameraman at Swedish Television, director Bo Öhlén brought his camera with him and other colleagues to record the moment when Vietnamese supporters in Stockholm spontaneously took to the streets to express their joy at the great victory of the Vietnamese people.

The image of Swedish people celebrating Vietnam's victory, singing peace songs, and holding up banners supporting the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam moved the audience watching the film.

In addition to the marching scenes and emotional speeches, this precious color film also documents the political and material support from the international solidarity movement.

The awarding of “Victory of Vietnam” is a significant testament to the long-standing cultural ties and friendship between Sweden and Vietnam. The film “Victory of Vietnam” will be preserved at the Vietnam Film Institute, ensuring that this legacy continues to inspire future generations.

Sweden and Vietnam have a long history of cooperation in film exchange and conservation. In the 1980s, with support from the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), archives were built in Hanoi to meet Vietnam's urgent film conservation needs.

The rich Swedish collection of Vietnamese films, assembled by FilmCentrum, has played an important role. During the war, many films were transferred to the Swedish Film Institute for preservation, and were later handed over to the Vietnamese film archive during a visit by Swedish Culture Minister Marita Ulvskog.
