Billionaire Elon Musk says he has no interest in buying TikTok

TikTok is facing a shutdown in the US and is continuing to operate thanks to an executive order from President Donald Trump that delayed the shutdown for 90 days.

The White House owner then left open the possibility of billionaire Elon Musk buying TikTok. Mr. Musk is currently the owner of social network X (formerly known as Twitter).

However, in a newly shared comment, billionaire Musk said that he did not want to buy Tiktok.

"I don't use TikTok myself, so you know I'm not familiar with it," AFP quoted Mr. Musk as saying today, February 9, adding that he had no intention of buying TikTok.

The billionaire said he had no plans for what he would do if he owned TikTok. “I usually build companies from the ground up,” Musk said, adding that he rarely buys a company.

In 2022, Mr. Musk spent $44 billion to buy Twitter, then changed its name to X and applied fees to users.

President Trump on February 3 signed an executive order establishing the first US sovereign wealth fund, opening a mechanism that promises to be able to buy TikTok from China.

Since TikTok was shut down on January 19 before being restored by an executive order from Trump on his first day back in the White House on January 20, Apple and Google have yet to bring TikTok back to their online app stores.

On February 7, TikTok provided a way for US users to download the application, through file formats on the website to distribute and install mobile applications.

President Trump also said he is discussing buying TikTok with many people and could make a decision on the app's future this month.

TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, headquartered in China, has always maintained its stance of not selling TikTok to the US.
