According to the Department, in August 2023, the capital's tourism industry welcomed 2.18 million visitors, an increase of 23.1% over the same period in 2022. Of which, international tourists are estimated at more than 382,000, an increase of nearly 21.5 times over the same period in 2022.
The domestic market alone reached 1.8 million visitors, an increase of 12.5% over the same period in 2022. Total revenue from tourists is estimated at more than VND 8.07 trillion, an increase of 38.1% over the same period in 2022.
In the past 8 months, Hanoi's tourism industry has welcomed 16.9 million tourists, an increase of 36.2% over the same period in 2022.
Of which, international tourists to Hanoi are estimated at 2.79 million, up 4.6 times over the same period in 2022; domestic tourists are estimated at 14.1 million, up 19.5% over the same period in 2022. Total revenue from tourists is estimated at 61.6 trillion VND, up 63.1% over the same period last year.
Regarding accommodation facilities, as of August 2023, Hanoi has 3,756 tourist accommodation facilities with 70,218 rooms; of which, 603 hotels have been ranked from 1 to 5 stars with 25,550 rooms, accounting for 16.1% of the total number of tourist accommodation facilities in the area and 36.3% of the total number of rooms. With this number of accommodation facilities, Hanoi can fully meet the increasing demand of tourists in the coming time.

Director of Hanoi Department of Tourism Dang Huong Giang said that in order to attract tourists to choose the capital as a destination, from now until the end of 2023, Hanoi Department of Tourism will promote activities to support tourism businesses to connect with key tourism provinces in the South, Central Highlands, and Central regions to build joint tourism programs to attract visitors to Hanoi.
The Department is also developing a waterway tour connecting tourist destinations on the Red River, departing from Chuong Duong Do tourist wharf (Hoan Kiem); Researching and developing a tourist village in Soc Son district; Center for creative design of craft villages combined with tourism activities in Phu Xuyen district. At the same time, organizing events, programs, and festivals to promote tourism in the capital such as: "Hanoi Capital Welcomes You" tourism photo contest, Hanoi Tourism Gift Festival 2023, Hanoi Ao Dai Festival.
To create an attractive destination image, the Hanoi Department of Tourism has actively built products, cooperated in promoting and developing markets; coordinated with agencies and units to build models for developing agricultural and rural tourism ; promoted the pilot construction of community tourism models associated with practical experiences in craft villages and tourist destinations associated with traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities in Ba Vi district.
In particular, the Department has surveyed and built a waterway tour connecting tourist destinations on the Red River departing from Chuong Duong Do tourist wharf, Hoan Kiem district; coordinated with districts to research and propose the implementation of new cultural tourism and craft village models such as the tourist village in Soc Son district, the craft village creative design center combined with tourism activities in Phu Xuyen district, etc.
In addition, in order to promote the image of Hanoi tourism to domestic and international tourists, the unit will promote tourism promotion of the capital on domestic and international media and television channels such as CNN and social networking platforms. Organize cooperation and promotion activities to attract international visitors in key markets of Northeast Asia, France and some European countries, the US, India, China, etc.
