Conducting assessment of flight guidance method at Long Thanh

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, in coordination with the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation, Vietnam Airports Corporation, Air Traffic Management Engineering Company Limited (ATTECH) and related units, organized a flight to evaluate the satellite-based navigation method (PBN) at Long Thanh International Airport.

This is an important step in the preparation roadmap for putting Long Thanh International Airport - a national key project, a symbol of modern, synchronous development and international integration of Vietnam's aviation industry - into official operation from the beginning of next year. The PBN method evaluation flight program is expected to end on August 3.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has closely coordinated with the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation in developing a plan to ensure safety for evaluation flights at Long Thanh.

The purpose of PBN flight method assessment is to check the quality of the method design, including the assessment of aviation obstacle data, navigation data; the ability to perform flight operations according to design parameters; detect interference sources affecting the quality of satellite signals - especially for PBN flight methods; thereby ensuring safety, efficiency of flight operations and compliance with technical requirements and management regulations of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.

Evaluating the PBN flight method at Long Thanh is not only a technical activity, but also a strong commitment to safety, efficiency and compliance with international standards in all aspects of operation".

PBN flight procedures at Long Thanh include instrument departure (SID), instrument arrival (STAR) according to RNP 1 (GNSS); instrument approach (IAP) applying RNP APCH, combining ILS and RNP 1.

ATTECH Company, the unit performing the evaluation flight, has coordinated with the Southern Air Traffic Management Company, Long Thanh Project Management Board (ACV) and Air Division 370 to agree on a coordination plan to deploy calibration and evaluation flights for PBN flight methods in Long Thanh to complete the approved plan; at the same time, signed a coordination document with the Center for Aviation Meteorology (VATM) to ensure meteorological information effectively serves the process of flight inspection and evaluation.

The flight was carried out by a specialized Beechcraft King Air 350ER aircraft, departing from Tan Son Nhat airport, conducting an evaluation flight in Long Thanh airspace and returning to land at Tan Son Nhat. This work is being carried out continuously and smoothly, according to plan.

This flight result is the basis for the authorities to conduct technical flights at the end of December 2025, a key milestone towards the official operation of Long Thanh International Airport.

The leader of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam emphasized: "Evaluating the PBN flight method at Long Thanh is not only a technical activity, but also a strong commitment to safety, efficiency and compliance with international standards in all aspects of operation".

The plan focuses on coordination between the APP/TWR Tan Son Nhat, ACC Ho Chi Minh , meteorology, CNS and forces directly performing tasks at the scene. At the same time, technical systems such as VHF, ADS-B monitoring, meteorology, power sources... have been fully equipped to ensure safe and smooth flight operations.

Immediately after the flight method evaluation flight phase, flights to test and calibrate the aviation navigation and surveillance equipment systems (ILS/DME, VOR/DME, signal lights, radar, ADS-B...) will continue to be deployed by relevant functional units, serving the technical flight scheduled for the end of December 2025.

All of this work aims to ensure that Long Thanh International Airport fully meets safety, technical and operational requirements, and is ready to receive the most modern aircraft, serving long-distance international routes and transit routes within Southeast Asia.

The successful organization of the PBN flight evaluation flight is a clear demonstration of the determination and capacity of management agencies, operators and aviation businesses in the journey to build an airport on par with the region and the world .
