The Hwasal-2 missile was launched during a drill conducted off North Korea's west coast, without affecting the security of its neighbor.
According to KCNA , the drill helps test the Korean People's Army's rapid counterattack posture and improve the army's strategic strike capability.
Yonhap reported that the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) is strengthening surveillance and vigilance, and closely coordinating with the US to track signs and further activities of North Korea.
This is North Korea's third cruise missile launch in just over a week. Previously, on January 28, North Korea test-fired a strategic cruise missile named Pulhwasal-3-31 off its east coast, just days after it first test-fired the missile towards the Yellow Sea on January 24.
The launches come amid heightened tensions on the Korean peninsula, with South Korean and US intelligence agencies closely monitoring the situation.
