The Hwasal-2 missile was launched during a drill conducted off North Korea's west coast, posing no threat to the security of its neighbor.
According to KCNA , the exercise helped test the rapid counterattack capabilities of the Korean People's Army and improve the military's strategic offensive capabilities.
According to Yonhap , the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) is increasing its surveillance and vigilance, and coordinating closely with the U.S. to monitor any signs and further activities from North Korea.
This was North Korea's third cruise missile launch in just one week. Previously, on January 28, North Korea test-fired a Pulhwasal-3-31 strategic cruise missile off its eastern coast, just days after its first test launch of the same missile toward the Yellow Sea on January 24.
The launches took place amid heightened tensions on the Korean Peninsula. South Korean and U.S. intelligence agencies are closely monitoring the situation.
