On the afternoon of March 5, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ngai province held a conference to deploy tasks of tourism development; community tourism, rural tourism in new rural construction in 2024.
The conference was held to continue improving the quality of direction, management and evaluation of the effectiveness of state management in the tourism sector. At the same time, analyze the achieved results, shortcomings, limitations; difficulties, obstacles; subjective and objective causes; determine the key directions and tasks for 2024 and propose practical and effective solutions to ensure the successful completion of the assigned tasks.
After the Covid-19 pandemic, Quang Ngai tourism gradually recovered and achieved encouraging results. In 2023 alone, Quang Ngai welcomed more than 1 million visitors, an increase of 64% over the same period last year and reaching 149% of the yearly plan. Revenue reached 1,018 billion VND, an increase of 45% over the same period last year and reaching 113% of the yearly plan.
However, according to delegates attending the conference, Quang Ngai tourism has not yet had a breakthrough in products or improved service quality, and the province's ability to attract tourists is still limited compared to neighboring provinces.
There are many reasons for the above situation such as: attracting investment in the tourism sector of the province is still limited, not implementing dynamic tourism projects that contribute to promoting tourism development and attracting other projects; transportation infrastructure, tourism facilities such as hotels and restaurants are still limited at some destinations, reducing the tourism experience of customers.
In recent years, Quang Ngai tourism has focused on three main product lines including sea and island tourism, cultural tourism and eco-tourism. However, the quality of tourism services is still weak and cannot meet the increasing demand of tourists. Tourism products are still poor, there are no typical products, and the strong products are still in the potential form, not fully exploiting the inherent resources.
According to Nguyen Tien Dung, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ngai province, turning tourism into a spearhead economic sector is a process that requires a lot of time to implement, invest in infrastructure and attract investment. The most important issue now is to change the perception of doing tourism.
“Developing tourism is for economic purposes and we need to change our perception of tourism. This is the responsibility of the entire system, not just the culture, sports and tourism sector,” said Mr. Dung.
In 2024, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will organize many special events. In particular, in April - May 2024, there will be a Culture, Sports and Tourism Week; a seminar on tourism development of the most beautiful bays and islands in Asia in Ly Son district; an international sailing and stand-up paddleboarding race at My Khe beach (Quang Ngai city); an international paragliding championship and a hot air balloon festival "Flying to Ly Son" in Ly Son...
This is an opportunity for Quang Ngai to widely promote the history, culture, people of Quang Ngai as well as tourism potential, in order to bring the image of Quang Ngai closer to the public at home and abroad, to promote tourism development more strongly in the coming time.
At the conference, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism handed over two models of community tourism and rural tourism (An Khe, Son My) and signed a plan to coordinate the implementation of tourism development tasks in 2024 between the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and a number of localities.
