This is an activity to spread the message of environmental protection through practical and creative actions from the young generation.
In recent decades, plastic waste pollution has become one of the most serious challenges facing the global environment. Every year, the world produces about 400 million tons of plastic (according to statistics from the United Nations Environment Programme - UNEP, 2023), but only about 9% of it is recycled. Most plastic waste ends up in landfills, oceans or is burned, causing serious pollution to the ecosystem and threatening human health.
In Vietnam, plastic consumption per capita has increased rapidly in recent years. According to the World Bank (2021), the average Vietnamese person consumed about 41 kg of plastic per year in 2019, nearly double that of a decade ago. More worryingly, plastic waste is not only present in large cities but has also infiltrated rural areas, schools, and traditional markets. Meanwhile, children are the most vulnerable to future environmental consequences.
The contest “I am a Green Superman – Save the Earth from plastic waste” is organized with the aim of raising awareness and action of students in reducing plastic waste pollution while creating a creative and useful playground, helping them develop presentation skills, critical thinking and the ability to apply technology. Through the innocent, authentic and inspiring lens of children, stories about environmental protection are told vividly and have a great influence.
The contest encourages students to express their thoughts and perspectives through short videos of 1-3 minutes in length. In the videos, students will introduce themselves and answer the questions: How do you think plastic waste affects the lives around you? What will you do to reduce plastic waste and make the earth cleaner? What message do you want to send to everyone?… In addition, each student will illustrate a practical action they have taken to reduce plastic waste.
Videos can be shot with phones, tablets or cameras, do not require professional quality but encourage creativity and liveliness. All entries must be made by students or groups of students themselves, do not use AI technology, do not copy or use other people's content without permission.
The contest is open to students born from 2010 to 2019, both Vietnamese and international students studying and living in Vietnam. Students can participate individually or in groups (maximum 3 members). Outstanding videos will be selected to participate in a public voting round on social networks, creating a space for connection, exchange and spreading positive inspiration in the community.
