Information regarding the confirmed data breach on the Zalo social network has raised serious concerns about the security of one of the most widely used communication platforms in our country.
According to information from the hackers, a significant amount of sensitive data, such as phone numbers, usernames, and display names of Zalo users, has been compromised. A sample of the stolen data was allegedly shared as evidence of the breach, although to date, Zalo and the relevant authorities have not issued any confirmation or denial regarding the legality of this violation.
Concerns for the Zalo user community.
The incident has caused concern among the popular social media user community in Vietnam, with many of them using the app for both personal and work purposes. With hackers gaining access to phone numbers and usernames, the risk of cybercriminals carrying out phishing attacks or even identity theft is very high.
Security experts advise Zalo users to be more vigilant and take preventative measures. This includes avoiding clicking on suspicious links or replying to unwanted messages, as these could be part of phishing schemes. Additionally, enabling two-factor authentication (2FA) and changing passwords regularly are recommended as proactive protection measures.
Although the extent of the breach is not yet clearly defined, experts warn that even partial disclosure of personal information could lead to serious security risks. While awaiting further details, users should exercise caution when interacting online.
Currently, Zalo has not issued an official statement regarding the incident, and cybersecurity agencies in Vietnam are reportedly investigating the matter.
