"Sensitive" situation: Parents give gifts to teachers hoping they will care for their children, Pedagogy students respond tactfully

When assigned to handle the situation of parents giving gifts to teachers in hopes of getting more attention for their children, students from Hanoi National University of Education skillfully handled the situation, receiving applause from many people.

On the morning of November 19, Hanoi National University of Education organized the 2024 School-level Pedagogical Competition. The competition had the participation of 24 teams of students from various faculties competing in various contents and attracted the attention of staff, lecturers, and students of the whole school.

The new point of this year's contest is that in addition to the usual knowledge, debate, media clip and dramatization competitions, there is also a creative photo-booth competition for the teams.

In the Debate round, students from each team will receive a Pedagogical situation to propose a solution. At the beginning of the round, students from the PhysicalEducation Department of the school received a situation in which a parent came to the teacher to give a gift with the hope that the teacher would pay more attention to their child. This situation posed a question for the students: If you were the teacher, how would you handle it?

After 30 seconds of thinking, the Physical Education student came up with the following solution: First of all, teachers will sympathize with parents because everyone wants their children to achieve the best results, to get into the best school. However, studying and grades go hand in hand, the students themselves must try. Teachers will have to encourage them to try to improve themselves.

The above solution received much applause from the hall.

Next, students from different faculties received different scenarios such as how teachers handle students fighting at school. In this scenario, students asked everyone to stay calm, let the students write a report, and asked their families to cooperate with the school in educating the students.

Another situation is that a teacher was filmed by a student giving a wrong lesson and posted online. The student resolved the situation by explaining to the student and improving himself. To avoid cyber violence, the school coordinates with families and organizes activities for students.

In addition, there is another situation that many students today encounter: they like a major but their parents object. When playing the role of a teacher, students of the English department raised two problems that need to be solved. First, teachers will discuss and analyze for parents to understand the advantages and disadvantages of each career and give advice suitable to the students' abilities and passions. Second, the school must organize career orientation days so that students can understand the career.

As a result, the first prizes went to the following faculties: Faculty of Literature (Media Clip contest), Faculty of Chemistry (Photo-Booth contest), Faculty of Chemistry (Understanding contest), Faculty of Physics (Debate contest), Faculty of Educational Psychology (Drama contest).

The 2024 School-level Pedagogical Competition is part of the pedagogical training week of Hanoi National University of Education, taking place from November 18-22. This is an annual and unique activity of the school to enhance professional skills for students and foster a love for the profession for future teachers. The pedagogical training week and the competition are widely implemented from class, course, and faculty levels with many exciting activities closely following the characteristics of each major.
