TKV increases production to complete the first 6-month plan

Báo Quảng NinhBáo Quảng Ninh14/06/2023

Despite many difficulties in production and business, in the first 6 months of 2023, TKV has proactively and flexibly managed production and consumption, meeting coal output for the market and ensuring coal for electricity production. The efforts of the coal industry and miners have contributed to ensuring the supply of energy for socio -economic development, continuing to contribute a large source of revenue to the state budget.

Cao Son Coal's main seam lowering campaign this year was completed early thanks to the great contribution of the miners at Exploitation Site 3. This is the mine's main unit, currently managing 147 workers with 15 modern loading and transport vehicles and equipment.

During the peak production days of the second quarter, in Khe Cham II area, where the Company's production area had dropped to -200m, the task of Mining Site 3 was to excavate over 2 million m3 of earth and rock and mine and transport over 580,000 tons of raw coal. "Deep production area, large lifting height, and long transport distance are difficulties for Mining Site 3. With the highest determination, the unit has reached the finish line early in the company's plan, both in terms of progress and workload" - Mr. Chu Van Thuong, Site Manager, said.

Not only facing difficulties in production, since the beginning of 2023, Cao Son Coal has also encountered difficulties in the progress of granting mining licenses, affecting production targets. However, with the determination of the leadership team and miners, Cao Son has united, unanimously, quickly built and implemented flexible production management scenarios, ensuring the completion of the plan for the first 6 months of 2023.

According to Mr. Do Van Kien, Deputy Director of Cao Son Coal Joint Stock Company, in the past 6 months, the unit has excavated about 16 million m3 of earth and rock, mainly at Khe Cham II quarry. Raw coal output reached over 2.2 million tons, coal consumption was approximately 2.2 million tons.

At Mong Duong Coal, to implement the Group's direction on increasing production in May, June and July to meet the coal supply requirements for thermal power plants, the unit's leaders also requested departments and workshops to urgently review the entire equipment system, prepare sufficient materials, and mobilize maximum human resources to boost production.

The company also directed to shorten the transition time, especially for mechanized longwalls, and quickly complete storm prevention works, to minimize the impact of the rainy season on production. "Deploy many synchronous solutions to increase coal production. Previously, the average daily output of the mine was about 5,000 tons of coal, but now it has increased to 6,000 tons/day" - Mr. Than Van Tiep, Head of the Company's Production Control Department, said.

Faced with the demand for coal consumption in the country continuing to increase, especially in the summer months, the Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group is continuing to direct its member units to take advantage of favorable weather, increase production speed, and focus on maximum coal mining. Underground and open-pit mines are producing with an output increase of about 500,000 tons per month compared to the plan. On average, TKV is supplying about 140,000 tons of coal to thermal power plants every day, exceeding the plan by 25,000 tons.

In addition to the raw coal produced, the Group also proactively imports coal for blending and supplying to thermal power plants. It is expected that in the months of May, June and July, the Group will import an average of 400,000 to 500,000 tons of coal each month compared to the plan.

Cua Ong Coal Selection Company - TKV increases production and coal blending to supply to Thermal Power Plants.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade , in 2023, it is expected that commercial coal production will be about 57.88 million tons, of which domestically produced commercial coal will be about 44.68 million tons and imported coal will be about 13.2 million tons. Total coal consumption will be about 56.95 million tons, of which electricity households will be about 46.16 million tons, fertilizer and chemical households will be about 2.5 million tons, cement households will be about 1.74 million tons, other households will be about 4.52 million tons and exported about 2.03 million tons.

To date, Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group and Dong Bac Corporation have completed the signing of coal purchase contracts for 2023 with power and fertilizer plants. Accordingly, TKV has signed coal purchase contracts for 22 thermal power plants with a total volume of about 38.52 million tons, and 2 fertilizer plants with a total volume of about 1.59 million tons.

In the first 5 months of 2023 alone, the Group's member units produced 16.8 million tons of coal and consumed 20.5 million tons of coal. Of which, the coal output supplied to thermal power plants reached 17.1 million tons, an increase compared to the same period in 2022. It is expected that in June, the peak month of hot weather and also the peak of coal production, TKV will exploit about 3.4 million tons of raw coal and consume 4.6 million tons.

From now until the end of the year, TKV determines that in all situations, it must ensure sufficient coal supply for electricity and fertilizer production to serve the country's economic development and people's lives, and not allow shortages or disruptions in coal supply, including local shortages or disruptions.
