Organize English classes for preschool children in qualified places

On August 18, the Department of Education and Training (DET) issued a document guiding the People's Committees of communes and wards to implement an English familiarization program for preschool children in qualified places from the 2025-2026 school year.

Accordingly, the Department recommends that localities direct preschools to base on Circular No. 50/2020 of the Ministry of Education and Training promulgating the English familiarization program for preschool children to organize for children to become familiar with English if qualified. The head of the preschool is fully responsible for organizing, managing, ensuring facilities, teaching staff, professional quality and absolute safety for children participating in the program.

The Department of Education and Training noted that preschools use documents that have been assessed and approved by the Ministry of Education and Training; proactively develop an organization plan and submit it to the People's Committee of the commune or ward for approval. The plan must ensure flexibility and diversity, meet the educational perspective of putting children at the center, with a duration of 35 weeks/year, and at least 2 English familiarization activities/week, each activity lasting from 25 to 35 minutes. The Department also provides specific instructions on the service fee for this activity depending on each locality.

The province currently has 171/280 preschools organizing English classes for children (reaching 61%), with nearly 23,600 out of more than 86,800 preschool children participating (reaching 27.2%).
