Tien Pagoda Festival is a traditional festival with a long history of the people of Lac Thuy district. In 2024, the festival will be held at the provincial level. Comrade Nguyen Van Toan, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and relevant agencies directed the preparation work for the organization of the Tien Pagoda Festival, Lac Thuy district in 2024.
PV: Could you please tell us about the typical values of the Tien Pagoda Festival in Lac Thuy district?
Comrade Nguyen Van Toan: Tien Pagoda Festival is held once a year for 3 months (from the 4th day of the first lunar month to the end of the 3rd lunar month). The opening ceremony is held on the 4th day of the first lunar month at Tien Pagoda yard in Tien Pagoda tourist area, Phu Nghia commune. This is a big festival of Hoa Binh province in general and Lac Thuy district in particular, containing many traditional cultural values of the Muong ethnic group. Organizing Tien Pagoda Festival aims to meet the needs of cultural and religious activities of the people, inheriting and promoting the long-standing cultural values of the people and the land of Lac Thuy.
The Tien Pagoda Festival is a folk cultural and religious activity of the nation that is restored and maintained annually to preserve and promote the traditional cultural values of the nation, meeting the needs of the cultural and religious life of the people; contributing to promoting the spirit of great solidarity of ethnic groups, promoting and introducing national cultural heritage, promoting tourism development of the locality and Hoa Binh province. Through the organization of the Tien Pagoda Festival in 2024, it contributesto educating the tradition of patriotism, national pride and raising people's awareness in preserving and promoting the cultural identity of Hoa Binh ethnic groups in general and Muong ethnic culture in particular.
PV: In 2024, the festival will be organized on a provincial scale. Could you please tell us the main content of the festival program?
Comrade Nguyen Van Toan: This year, the Tien Pagoda Festival is organized at the provincial level. This is a practical cultural activity to welcome the new year, the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin, creating a joyful and exciting atmosphere among all classes of people.
The opening ceremony will be held from February 12 to 14, 2024 (ie January 3 to 5 of the lunar calendar). The opening ceremony with incense offering and rituals will be held on the afternoon of February 12 (January 3 of the lunar calendar) at Tien Pagoda.
The opening ceremony was held on February 13 (January 4 of the lunar calendar) with the following contents: the procession of the Three Gods' palanquin from Trinh Temple; the procession of the Holy Mother's palanquin from Mau Temple; the procession of the deity worshiped in the communal house from Trung Temple to Tien Pagoda's yard. Then there was the official opening program, including the contents of the ceremony; art program, opening drum beating; delegates offering incense at Tien Pagoda, visiting historical sites and the spring fair. The ceremony also included lion and dragon dances, stilt walking, bamboo dances, and Muong gong concerts.
The festival will attract tourists with diverse and rich activities such as: Organizing competitions in traditional sports such as crossbow shooting, tug of war, and stick pushing with the participation of 10 communes and towns in the whole district; men's volleyball exchange between the districts of Yen Thuy, Kim Boi, Lac Son, Tan Lac and Lac Thuy; organizing folk games such as walking on stilts and jumping rope between locals and tourists. Folk art exchange program with performances of traditional musical instruments, Muong gong performances, folk singing, Chau Van... with the participation of the Muong ethnic cultural identity preservation club of Ba Hang Doi town, communes of Hung Thi, Phu Thanh, Khoan Du, Phu Nghia, Meritorious Artisan Nguyen Manh Tuan, Tran Manh Hung...; organizing performances of the practice of worshipping the Mother Goddess of the Three Palaces inviting artisans at the relic sites of Trinh Temple, Mau Temple, and Tien Pagoda.
Within the framework of the festival, a spring fair will also take place. It is expected that over 40 booths will display agricultural products, handicrafts, OCOP products, culture, cuisine, etc. with the participation of the districts: Yen Thuy, Kim Boi, Tan Lac, Lac Son, communes and towns in the district, the Agricultural Service Center, the Women's Union, the Farmers' Association, and small traders.

Comrade Nguyen Van Toan: The organization of the festival must ensure solemnity, practicality, efficiency, safety, and economy; the activities in the festival must be diverse, rich, promoting the traditions and cultural identity of the locality, creating a joyful and healthy atmosphere, leaving a good impression on the people and visitors when coming to the festival.
To direct the organization of the festival, the Provincial People's Committee has established the Festival Organizing Committee; issued Plan No. 01/KH-UBND, dated January 3, 2024 on organizing the Tien Pagoda Festival in Lac Thuy district, 2024; Decision No. 07/QD-BTC, dated January 14, 2024 on assigning tasks to members of the Organizing Committee of the Tien Pagoda Festival in Lac Thuy district, Hoa Binh province, 2024.
Based on the plan of the Provincial People's Committee, departments, branches, People's Committees of districts and related units have developed a Plan to implement assigned tasks with a spirit of urgency, responsibility and efficiency; ensuring the successful organization of the Tien Pagoda Festival in 2024.
