The test results, calibrated to regional reference conditions, confirmed that the initial reliable power of Unit 1 exceeded both the threshold power and the contract power as specified in the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). Representatives from Vietnam Electricity (EVN), the Electricity Trading Company (EPTC), VAPCO and an independent engineer witnessed the test and signed the IDCT Minutes, officially recording the test data on July 21, 2025.
Previously, EPTC also approved the testing plan and sent representatives to participate in IDCT.
Based on the PPA, VAPCO also announced that the commercial operation date (COD) of Unit 1 of the VA2 Project will be 00:00 on July 22, 2025.

From this date, capacity charges and other applicable electricity prices will commence based on the initial reliable capacity, and Unit 1 will be operated and maintained in accordance with the terms of the PPA.
Unit 1 has a designed capacity of about 600 MW, using modern "ultra-supercritical" technology, helping to increase power generation efficiency and reduce emissions to the environment, contributing to supplementing important power sources for the national power system.
Currently, Unit 2 is in the testing phase and is expected to be completed and put into commercial operation in the near future, aiming to generate electricity for the entire plant in the third quarter of 2025.
The Vung Ang II Thermal Power Plant Project with a total investment of more than 2.2 billion USD is the largest BOT project in Ha Tinh at present, and is also one of the key national energy projects.
