Before joining Phu Tho , Vinh Yen City was the center of Vinh Phuc province with an area of 50.39 km² and a total urban population of over 150,000 people (2023).

Vinh Yen is a traffic and inter-provincial exchange hub; it plays a role in promoting economic and social development for the province, region, Red River Delta, and key economic region of the North.

As the largest economic, political , cultural and social center of Vinh Phuc province with a fast and steady economic growth rate, from 2016 to now, Vinh Yen has made remarkable progress, its economic structure gradually suitable to the requirements of a young city.

Up to now, Vinh Yen city (Vinh Phuc) has been officially divided into two new wards: Vinh Phuc and Vinh Yen. Accordingly, Vinh Phuc ward was established from Dinh Trung, Lien Bao, Khai Quang, Ngo Quyen and Dong Da wards. Vinh Yen ward is the result of merging 4 wards including: Tich Son, Hoi Hop, Dong Tam and Thanh Tru commune.

Regarding economic development, the city's growth rate is always at 7 - 10%/year; average income per capita is over 90 million VND/person/year by 2023. Vinh Yen is the industrial, commercial and service center of the province, and at the same time is one of the industrial centers of the Northern Key Economic Region.

Bao Son Lake, located in Lien Bao Ward, Vinh Yen City Center, is considered the “ecological gem” of the locality. This is a freshwater lake surrounded by walking paths, parks and new urban infrastructure.

Located right at the head of Bao Son Lake is the headquarters of Vinh Phuc Provincial People's Committee on Nguyen Trai Street. The building has a modern design with 5 floors, the front facing Nguyen Trai Street, inside there is a system of halls, meeting rooms and reception area.

Around here, there are many other provincial agencies such as the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, departments and branches, convenient for work and administrative exchanges. Behind the square is Vinh Phuc Provincial Theater, a modern, multi-purpose cultural building with 1 basement and 3 upper floors. The project was designed by an Australian architect, combined with the American Alubond cladding system, and put into use from around 2015-2016.

When talking about Vinh Yen, we cannot help but mention the 620m long Dam Vac bridge worth more than 610 billion VND. The bridge has two units, designed with 9 large lotus-shaped towers and 13 small lotus-shaped towers in the middle of the sidewalk on each side. The idea comes from Singapore's "Gardens by the Bay".

In particular, the bridge has a lighting system with more than 15,000 bulbs imported from Europe, controlled entirely by software that changes to many different colors. At night, this area becomes sparkling and magical.

Vinh Phuc Provincial Museum was established in 1997, located on the Cao Hill area, the center of Vinh Yen city. After 28 years of operation, the museum is preserving over 11,000 artifacts and scientific documents recreating the formation and development of history and culture of Vinh Phuc land.

The museum's outdoor exhibition space features large-scale artifacts associated with typical historical events and figures of the province in the struggles to protect the Fatherland, typically the T34 tank - serial number 137, one of the first tanks brought from Vinh Phuc to the southern battlefield.

DIC Nam Vinh Yen City has a very favorable location, located at the gateway to Vinh Yen city, south of Dam Vac lake, Thanh Tru commune, Khai Quang ward, Vinh Yen city and Quat Luu commune, Binh Xuyen district.

Vinh Yen is famous for the 220ha Khai Quang Industrial Park, which is oriented to develop into a multi-industry industrial park, attracting the fields of manufacturing, electronics, equipment, electricity, refrigeration, auto parts manufacturing, motorbikes, metals...

This industrial park was established in 2003 and has so far attracted more than 80 investment projects, including nearly 70 FDI projects. Some typical business brands operating here are: Sun Hua, Haohsing Vietnam, TOYO TAKI Vietnam, Diamond...

Historically, on December 29, 1899, Vinh Yen was established as the provincial capital, from which the name Vinh Yen urban area was formed. From March 1968, Vinh Phuc merged with Phu Tho province to form Vinh Phu province. On January 1, 1997, Vinh Phuc province was re-established, Vinh Yen became the provincial capital of Vinh Phuc province again. On December 15, 2004, Vinh Yen town was recognized by the Government as a type III urban area. Thus, from July 1, this city officially became two wards of Vinh Phuc and Vinh Yen of Phu Tho province.

The project to merge Vinh Phuc, Hoa Binh, and Phu Tho provinces into Phu Tho province shows that the new province will have a natural area of more than 9,361 square kilometers and a population of more than 4 million people.

The new Phu Tho province was formed by merging three provinces, Phu Tho, Hoa Binh, Vinh Phuc, with a total area of 9,361 km2 and a population of about 3.66 million.
