President Luong Cuong emphasized that although Vietnam and Australia are geographically far apart, they have many similarities; the two countries share many strategic interests, visions on regional and international issues, and the same aspiration to build a peaceful, stable, cooperative and developed Asia- Pacific region.

Rising above the ups and downs of history, multifaceted cooperation between the two countries is at its most brilliant stage of development after more than half a century of establishing diplomatic relations.

The President said that the community of more than 350,000 Vietnamese people in Australia has become part of the big family of over 300 ethnic groups in Australia, actively contributing to the local socio-economic development and the good relations between Vietnam and Australia.
The President expressed his delight at welcoming Governor-General Sam Mostyn as the first senior Australian leader to visit Vietnam since the two countries upgraded their relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2024.

In his response, Governor General Sam Mostyn sincerely thanked Vietnam for its hospitality and warm welcome.
Ms. Sam Mostyn shared that this was a visit to Vietnam in her capacity as Governor-General of Australia, but she had been to Vietnam more than 30 years ago and had visited many places in Vietnam.
The Governor-General affirmed that today, Australia's stability, prosperity and security are deeply linked with countries in the region and Vietnam is at the forefront of these connections.
Based on strategic understanding and trust, and through regional cooperation, including with ASEAN, Australia is a steadfast and reliable partner in Vietnam’s journey towards becoming a high-income country by 2045.
The Governor-General of Australia said that the upgrading of diplomatic relations between the two countries to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in March 2024 was a historic milestone, reflecting the deep strategic trust and shared ambitions of the two countries.
Two-way trade is growing, while both sides are committed to working together to combat climate change, aiming to achieve net zero emissions commitments and ensure sustainable economic development.
Stating that education is also a focus of cooperation between the two countries, Ms. Sam Mostyn affirmed that education is a solid path towards a better future and is just one of many paths that Australia and Vietnam are working together to build a brighter future.
This afternoon, Mr. Simeon Beckett, husband of the Governor General of Australia, visited the Vietnam Military History Museum. He was introduced to the museum construction project; learned about the history of the Vietnamese people's struggle; the formation, fighting and development of the Vietnam People's Army.
