Vietnam and Slovakia established diplomatic relations on February 2, 1950. Inheriting the good traditional friendship between Vietnam and Czechoslovakia, since 1993, the relationship between the two countries has continued to have positive developments in many aspects. Over the past years, the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Slovakia has been constantly strengthened and developed positively in many areas.
A highlight in the relationship between the two countries is the formation and development of a community of about 10,000 Vietnamese people living, working and studying in Slovakia. The Vietnamese people here are increasingly integrating successfully, making many contributions and affirming their position in the host society. Therefore, in June 2023, the Slovak Government officially recognized the Vietnamese community as the 14th ethnic minority in Slovakia.
Up to now, the Vietnamese community in Slovakia has successfully integrated and actively contributed to the host society while preserving its identity and introducing and promoting the beauty of Vietnamese cultural traditions to Slovakian society and continuing to be an important bridge between the two countries.
