Floods in the lower Thu Bon River rose rapidly at night, people hurriedly fled the flood.

On the evening of October 29, the Central Hydrometeorological Station continued to broadcast emergency flood news on the Vu Gia - Thu Bon River and flood news on the Tam Ky River.

Accordingly, the water level on Vu Gia – Thu Bon River and Tam Ky River is rising. Water level at 9:00 p.m. the same day: On Vu Gia River at Ai Nghia at 10.6m, on BĐ3 at 1.6m.

Thu Bon River at Nong Son is at 18.54m above BĐ3 3.54m, at Giao Thuy is at 10.02m above BĐ3 1.22m, at Cau Lau is at 5.48m above BĐ3 1.48m equal to the flood level in 1964, at Hoi An is at 3.22m above BĐ3 1.22m. Han River at Cam Le is at 3.02m above BĐ3 0.52m. Tam Ky River at Tam Ky is at 2.68m - below BĐ3: 0.02m.

It is forecasted that in the next 6-18 hours, the flood on Vu Gia - Thu Bon river will continue to rise and peak. The flood peak on Vu Gia river at Ai Nghia is likely to reach above BĐ3 1.6, approximately the same level as in 2009.

Flood on Thu Bon River at Cau Lau on BĐ3 is 1.65 - 1.8m higher than the historical flood level in 1964. At Hoi An on BĐ3, it is 1.5m, 0.1m higher than the flood level in 1964. In the next 24 hours, flood on Vu Gia Thu Bon River will slowly recede, but will remain at a high level.

On the same evening, according to the reporter's records in Dien Ban Dong ward located in the downstream of Thu Bon river, the water level was still rising. Within 30 minutes, the water level rose about 10-15cm, surpassing the flood mark of yesterday (October 28). Many people in low-lying areas continued to move to higher places because the flood rose faster and higher than in recent years.

Floodwaters on the evening of October 29 were said by local residents to be much higher than in recent years.

Ms. Nguyen Hong Nga (residing in block 2A, Dien Ban Dong ward) said that after the water receded, at about 6:00 p.m. the same day, the water started to rise again and quite quickly.

“Within two hours, the flood water rose more than 0.5m. Because I have two small children, my family contacted the neighborhood militia to row a boat to pick us up and take us to a higher area to avoid the flood,” Ms. Nga added.

Present at the flood response and food supply point of the People's Committee of Block 2A, the reporter noted that many families also moved adults, children and their belongings to higher ground. The militia and the People's Committee of Block 2A said that from the time the floodwaters rose in the evening until late October 29, the force transported dozens of people from low-lying areas to safety.
