“Future doctors” dedicated to the health of people in the highlands

Doctors, nurses, students of Hanoi Medical University Branch and local officials visited and examined the health of people in Bat Mot commune.

The program of medical examination, treatment and free medicine distribution for people in the highlands was organized by the Volunteer Student Team of Hanoi Medical University Branch in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of Hanoi Medical University. The program was accompanied by doctors, medical staff inside and outside the branch, along with many sponsors and benefactors. After 5 years of implementation, the activity has attracted thousands of students to participate, leaving a deep impression in the hearts of people in highland communes such as Co Lung, Nam Xuan, Thang Loc, Bat Mot...

The program targets the poor, the elderly, students in difficult circumstances, and children in mountainous areas who lack learning and health care conditions. With a spirit of dedication to serving the people, medical students have organized many practical activities such as medical training classes, visiting poor households, organizing humanitarian fairs, and especially examining, treating, and distributing free medicine to people. Not only that, the program also contributes to health promotion and education , helping people raise awareness in disease prevention, self-care and family care. In addition, exchange activities between students and people have created a bridge connecting, spreading the spirit of sharing and love in the community.

Sharing about this meaningful activity, MSc. Dr. Le Khac Manh, lecturer of Hanoi Medical University Branch, said: "This annual activity is very special and meaningful for the maturity of students of Hanoi Medical University Branch because this will be a place to arouse the enthusiasm and spirit of willingness to share difficulties with the community, especially people in remote areas of the students".

Not only stopping at medical examination and treatment, the students also organized charity fairs to raise funds, support poor households, give gifts to students who have overcome difficulties and perform cultural exchanges to connect the spirit between students and local people. Each activity demonstrates the spirit of compassion and social responsibility of future doctors.

Student Nguyen Thang Thuyet, Captain of the Volunteer Student Team of Hanoi Medical University Branch shared: “In every volunteer trip, medical examination and treatment and free medicine distribution for people in the highlands, we are always ready and dedicated to each person, especially those in difficult circumstances. Each time like that is not only an opportunity for us to apply the knowledge we have learned into practice but also an opportunity for us to learn how to share, understand and live more responsibly with the community”.

Over the years, the volunteer program of Hanoi Medical University students has been constantly expanded in scale, improved in quality, leaving a beautiful mark in the hearts of the people of Thanh Hoa highlands. From those trips, many beautiful stories have been written, young hands taking care of the health of the elderly, warm smiles of highland children when being examined, receiving small gifts from future doctors. For the people of the highlands, being examined, receiving free medicine, being instructed on how to take care of health, and preventing diseases is a great joy. As for the volunteer students, each trip is a journey of learning, an opportunity to grow in career and in life.

Vice Chairman of Bat Mot Commune People's Committee Vi Thanh Chung expressed his deep impression of the students' care and concern during the free medical examination and treatment for the people of Bat Mot Commune. He said: "Bat Mot is a remote mountainous border commune, so medical conditions and health care for the people still face many difficulties. Therefore, the free health care activities for the people of Hanoi Medical University Branch are very practical activities, helping people have the opportunity to access health care knowledge, first aid skills, especially to be shared and encouraged mentally. We hope that Bat Mot Commune can connect with more social organizations, universities, especially medical universities to improve the health of local people".

Every year, volunteer buses roll out to bring future doctors closer to their fellow countrymen. It is from such trips that medical students learn that: a good doctor is not only someone who can cure diseases, but also someone who knows how to listen, sympathize and understand the pain of patients. And then, in the mountains and forests of Thanh Hoa, the image of students in white coats wholeheartedly treating people in the highlands will forever be a beautiful symbol of the humane spirit, a living proof that "Where there is a need, there is youth, where there is difficulty, there is youth".
