Help students obey traffic laws

Currently, some students’ awareness of obeying traffic laws is still limited. Therefore, in addition to the inspection and handling of the authorities, it is necessary for schools and parents to cooperate in propaganda and education to raise students’ awareness.

Traffic safety concerns

It is not difficult to see many students violating the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety such as driving in the wrong lane; not paying attention when changing direction, avoiding overtaking in violation of regulations; not giving way, not keeping a safe distance; not wearing helmets, driving in a row, speeding, speeding, recklessly overtaking, weaving, swerving; using phones while driving, especially students driving when they are underage... The main reason is that students are not fully equipped with legal knowledge, and their awareness of complying with traffic safety regulations is still poor.

Mr. Le Van Hung, resident of Binh Duc ward, said: "Recently, the number of students driving electric vehicles to school has increased. Besides those who comply with traffic safety regulations, there are students who do not wear helmets and drive very fast, lining up on the road, which is extremely dangerous." Mr. Huynh Huu Thoi, resident of Long Xuyen ward, shared: "Many times while driving on the road, I was startled and had to brake suddenly because students were driving electric vehicles at high speed and recklessly overtaking. Students are not fully aware of traffic safety, so they can easily cause accidents."

Ms. Le Thi Tu Trang, living in Hoi An commune, shared: “My nephew is in 10th grade. The school is more than 5km from home, his parents bought an electric motorbike for him to go to school conveniently. However, just over a week ago, while going to school with his friends, he was riding in a row of 3, could not control his speed, and crashed into the back of a car parked on the side of the road. As a result, he was slightly injured, the electric motorbike and the car were damaged, the family had to compensate the car owner. The family let him ride a bicycle or an adult took him to school.”

Raising awareness

Recently, the traffic police force has coordinated with schools to actively propagate and guide students to participate in traffic safety. At the same time, they have increased patrols, control and strictly handled violations to help students access knowledge about the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety, and raise awareness of strict compliance with the law.

At the same time, building awareness of traffic law compliance for students must start from each family. Parents must set an example in complying with traffic safety laws; instructing their children to master traffic laws and safe driving skills so that they can proactively avoid dangerous situations, create a habit of obeying traffic laws as well as form a traffic culture among school-age children. Ms. Nguyen Thi Truc Phuong, residing in Long Xuyen ward, shared: "When taking my child by motorbike, I always let him wear a helmet and tell him about traffic light regulations. When I see traffic signs, I also explain to him so he understands the meaning. Thanks to that, my child gradually forms awareness of traffic safety." Similarly, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Thi, residing in Chau Phu commune, said: "Even though my child rides a bicycle to school, I always tell him to drive slowly, to go on the right side, not to play with friends, and not to drive in 2 or 3 rows on the road."

To raise awareness of traffic safety laws among students, in addition to the involvement of the authorities, schools also need to innovate in the way of education and propaganda linked to practice, helping students easily apply them in practice. Parents need to coordinate with schools and society. Only then can we minimize violations of traffic safety laws, prevent unfortunate accidents that may occur, and build awareness of responsible traffic participation for students.
