After being unanimously approved by the Provincial People's Council delegates at the 30th Session, the Hai Duong Provincial People's Council issued Resolution No. 12/NQ-HDND on approving the policy of merging Hai Duong province and Hai Phong city.
According to the resolution, after the merger, Hai Phong City (new) has an area of nearly 3,200 km2 , a population of more than 4.66 million people and 114 commune-level administrative units.
