To document the inspiring journeys of generations of students over the past 25 years, especially those who have built international careers, RMIT University Vietnam has just launched season 2 of the podcast "How My Journey Started" . From London to Paris, Barcelona to Ho Chi Minh City, through the narration of RMIT students themselves, each slice of the journey of maturity of four RMIT alumni is gradually revealed.

When Paul Huynh, an Executive MBA (EMBA) alumnus, walks into the London podcast studio, you sense a humble, down-to-earth, people-focused presence – touches that reflect his leadership journey.

Currently the global head of human resources at KPMG, he is responsible for the human resources of the entire group in 145 countries. But before he reached his current position, his career also began with ambiguity, difficult decisions and a deep commitment to his values.

Having studied IT, he decided to switch to Business, majoring in Human Resource Management. That turning point was just the beginning. In 2007, he returned to Vietnam to find his roots and career opportunities. After joining KPMG Vietnam and Cambodia as the leader of the People, Performance and Culture department, he enrolled in the EMBA program at RMIT Vietnam. Graduating in 2015, his career has developed brilliantly, from the role of Asia- Pacific regional leader to his current position at KPMG globally.

For Huyen Le, the character of the podcast episode held in Paris, sharpness, courage and focus are what others feel when meeting her.

She not only gives profound reflections on her career but also frankly asks the question: "What is true success?".

After graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce (majoring in Marketing) from RMIT, Huyen quickly built a solid career in the advertising and communications industry. After seven years, she realized she had reached a saturation point and needed a change. A chance conversation with a relative in France opened up a new direction for Huyen, and just a few months later she enrolled in an MBA and packed her bags to fly to Paris.

That bold move marked the beginning of a new journey that Huyen has never regretted. Currently living and working in Paris (France) as the Director of Demand Generation and Digital Marketing for Ingenico in Europe, Middle East and Africa, Huyen believes that the important thing is not to be fully prepared but to dare to take the step when the opportunity arises: " You will never be completely prepared. Be bold, commit and take responsibility for your choices."

Huyen's story is not only about the journey to reach out to the ocean but also about the struggles to discover and overcome one's own limits to become a better version of oneself, and reminds us that leadership does not always start from certainty but sometimes comes from the decision to bet on oneself.

Where can a nursing degree take you? For Lisa Rice-Duek, a Master of Business Administration alumna, the answer is continent to continent. From the Franco-Vietnamese Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City to the world’s fastest-growing digital health sector in Barcelona, her journey is a case study in reinventing herself with resilience, empathy, and community connection.

Lisa always knew she wanted to be a nurse, but she never expected her career path to lead an international hospital in Vietnam. That was in 2002, two years after RMIT University was established in Vietnam.

Soon after, to gain the strategic thinking needed to lead an organization, she enrolled in an MBA at RMIT. This decision gave her the confidence to drive towards direct and tangible impact.

After 14 years in Vietnam, her family moved to Spain in 2016. This move brought about major changes both professionally and personally, forcing her to reinvent herself. She began a new career in telemedicine and digital innovation, translating her public health experience into technology-enabled healthcare solutions.

Looking back on her career in a podcast episode from Barcelona, Lisa doesn't dwell much on titles or success, instead talking about relationships, adaptability and the importance of never standing still.

"Especially for women – maintain your career, learn, and don't stay out of the labor market for too long," she emphasized.

Season 2 concludes with a podcast in Ho Chi Minh City, reminiscing about 24 years of development with RMIT by Angela Ngan Nguyen – an alumnus, former lecturer and currently a senior advisor at the Australia-Vietnam Policy Institute.

Out of curiosity, in 2001 she chose RMIT to study Commerce instead of studying abroad in France. "And that decision changed everything," she recalls.

After graduating from RMIT, she received a full scholarship to study for a Master's degree in Australia and then returned to Vietnam to work for KPMG. However, her relationship with RMIT not only did not fade but also became deeper when in the same year she received an invitation to teach at the school.

Balancing work, teaching, and raising a young family is not easy. Angela was forced to consider and chose education as her lifelong career.

She currently lives and works in Melbourne, Australia, making an impact through her various roles as a lecturer, digital health researcher, and senior advisor to the Australia-Vietnam Policy Institute. For her, confusion and failure are part of the journey to maturity.

Success is not a straight path. Be open. Be curious. Surround yourself with people who motivate you, and enjoy every step of the journey,” she says.
