In the first 6 months of 2024, the political security situation and social order and safety in Hanoi continued to be maintained, but the crime situation showed signs of increasing. The investigation agency prosecuted 5,760 new cases with 8,514 defendants, an increase of 456 cases and 379 defendants compared to the same period in 2023.
On July 1, at the 17th session of the 16th Hanoi People's Council, Mr. Dao Thinh Cuong, Director of the Hanoi People's Procuracy, presented a summary report on the inspection work in the first 6 months of the year and key tasks for the last 6 months of 2024.
Accordingly, in the first 6 months of 2024, the political security situation and social order and safety in Hanoi continued to be maintained. However, the crime situation showed signs of increasing.
In the past 6 months, the investigation agency has prosecuted 5,760 new cases with 8,514 defendants, an increase of 456 cases and 379 defendants compared to the same period in 2023. Of which, there was a sharp increase in drug crimes (an increase of 28 cases/40 defendants), property violations (an increase of 315 cases/4 defendants), social order, administrative order (an increase of 61 cases/423 defendants)...
Drug-related crimes are becoming more complex, their nature and level are increasingly dangerous, and their concealment methods are sophisticated. The main crimes are still the illegal buying, selling, storing, and transporting of drugs such as heroin, synthetic drugs ATS, Ketamine, and Methamphetamine.
In particular, cannabis products and synthetic drugs disguised as food, beverages and e-cigarettes have appeared more and more because the food and beverage market is not strictly controlled; causing difficulties in management and crime detection.
In the past 6 months, exercising the right to prosecute and control the handling of criminal information sources, the two-level People's Procuracy has controlled 100% of the acceptance and handling of denunciations, reports of crimes and recommendations for prosecution by the investigation agency; coordinated with the investigation agency to ensure the classification and handling of 6,623 people with grounds and in accordance with the law, the rate of arrests and transfer to criminal proceedings reached 100%.
The Hanoi People's Procuracy has coordinated with the professional departments of the Supreme People's Procuracy and the same-level prosecution agencies to focus on resolving complicated cases, major cases that have attracted public attention, and cases under the monitoring and direction of the Central Steering Committee on anti-corruption and negativity...
“The Procuracy’s viewpoint and the Court’s resolution are basically appropriate and in accordance with regulations. The cases are resolved promptly, handled strictly, with the right people, the right crimes, and the right laws, with sentences that are both severe and humane, and are supported by public opinion. The work of recovering assets that were misappropriated or lost to the state has been strengthened, and a large amount of assets that were misappropriated or lost to the state have been recovered,” Mr. Dao Thinh Cuong emphasized.
Faced with the crime situation in the first 6 months of 2024 increasing compared to the same period, especially crimes related to national security, drugs, murder, online fraud, and child sexual abuse, the representative of the Procuracy proposed that the Hanoi People's Council recommend that the Hanoi People's Committee direct relevant agencies to further strengthen state management and social management in all fields, regularly inspect and check to promptly detect and handle.
