Specifically, tourist Helen Glover posted on travel groups with English content, roughly translated with the title: "If you plan to ride a cyclo in Hue - Be careful".

In the article, the tourist recounted: "This cyclo driver and his friend cheated and lied to us. We hired a cyclo for 1 hour for 2 people to go to the Imperial City for 300,000 VND. They took us everywhere but did not go to the Imperial City and then asked for 800,000 VND. Despite arguing with them that it was not the price quoted, they still insisted that afternoon that they had to collect the water fee that we did not use."

Western tourist's post attracts great attention from the community

"They exchanged the 500,000 VND note and gave us back 200,000 VND and said we still owed them. They made Vietnam's tourism look bad and left a bad impression about trusting other people's "sales pitches". The worst part was that we couldn't get inside the Imperial Citadel and had to take a shuttle bus back to the hotel...", this account wrote.

After a few hours of posting, the incident received great attention from the community. Many people expressed their outrage at the "ugly" actions of the cyclo driver, which affected the image of friendly Hue tourism.

Quickly protect tourists

Knowing the incident, the Thua Thien-Hue tourism industry coordinated with Hue City Police to urgently investigate and clarify this cyclo driver.

By yesterday afternoon, May 17, the authorities had identified the cyclo driver in the story as Mr. DVC (47 years old, residing in An Dong Ward, Hue City).

2 foreign tourists happily receive money back from cyclo drivers

Upon verification, the incident took place on May 15. At that time, Mr. C. agreed with Mr. and Mrs. Glover (Australian nationality) to take them by 2 cyclos from Le Loi Street to Hue Imperial City for 300,000 VND. However, after Mr. C. took Mr. and Mrs. Glover to the Imperial City, he continued to take them to many other locations and asked for a payment of 700,000 VND.

For his actions, Mr. C. was administratively punished by the authorities for "forcing tourists to buy services". At the same time, the Department of Tourism of Thua Thien-Hue province returned the money that Mr. C. "ripped off" to Mr. and Mrs. Glover; and asked Mr. C. to apologize to the two foreign tourists.

Receiving their property back, Mr. and Mrs. Glover expressed their joy and satisfaction with the way the Thua Thien-Hue authorities handled the situation. They believe that the Hue tourism environment is always strictly protected and safe. Immediately after that, Mrs. Glover also posted a thank you to the Thua Thien-Hue authorities for the incident on her personal page.

Mrs. Glover thanks Hue City Police

The Department of Tourism of Thua Thien-Hue province informed that Mr. C. was an isolated case of violation, because he did not join the cyclo union but still wore the union uniform to gain prestige. Mr. C.'s actions had a negative impact on the image of Hue cyclo.

In the coming time, Hue City government will strengthen management to preserve the beautiful image, culture and tourism environment of the ancient capital.

Through this incident, Hue City Police recommends that when tourists coming to Hue encounter any problems related to security and order or legitimate interests that need protection, they should immediately contact the police force or the hotline of Thua Thien-Hue Department of Tourism for support.
