Mr. Kien affirmed that the ceremony to celebrate the school's 70th founding anniversary was the last meeting between the General Secretary and teachers and students of Nguyen Gia Thieu High School before the General Secretary passed away.

This is the school where the General Secretary studied for 6 consecutive years, from 1957 to 1963.
In the past, when he was still in good health, he drove his motorbike to school. Although his health had declined and at that time the General Secretary was preparing for the 13th National Party Congress and many other important tasks, Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong still took the time to attend the 70th anniversary of the founding of his old school.
Mr. Kien recalled: "Before the ceremony, the General Secretary told us: "I report to the teachers that I am now the General Secretary and President (in 2020 - PV), but when I return to school, I ask the teachers for permission and they still call me Nguyen Phu Trong, a former student of the school.

During the ceremony, the teachers also introduced me as a former student of Nguyen Phu Trong. I would also like to express my feelings about my memories of my student days, about the beautiful memories with my teachers and classmates."

Recalling the names of each principal, each subject teacher, each close friend from school days and especially the memories of the homeroom teacher - who is 91 years old and also present at the ceremony, General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong affirmed that he will never forget the profound memories, the teaching efforts of the teachers, the help of friends, the good impressions of 6 consecutive years of studying at the beloved Nguyen Gia Thieu school.

It is known that on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the school, the General Secretary awarded 70 scholarships to excellent students from difficult circumstances. Previously, the General Secretary also presented some computers to teachers of the school to serve teaching and learning.
According to Dan Tri reporter, on the first floor of Nguyen Gia Thieu High School, the Board of Directors has dedicated a solemn part of the traditional room to post pictures of General Secretary - former student Nguyen Phu Trong.

Established in 1950 in Bac Ninh province, in 1951, Nguyen Gia Thieu High School moved to its current location at No. 27, Lane 298, Ngoc Lam Street, Long Bien District, Hanoi City.
The school's educational scale currently has 2,000 students with 95 staff, teachers and employees; 100% of teachers have qualified training, of which the rate of teachers with above-standard training is more than 55%.

In the last 10 school years (from the 2010-2011 school year to the 2019-2020 school year), Nguyen Gia Thieu High School had 20 teachers winning prizes at the city-level excellent teacher competition; the percentage of students with excellent academic performance increased from 25.27% to 61%.
Notably, in the 2019-2020 school year, the whole school had 98.24% of students classified as excellent and fair, an increase of 4.93% compared to the 2018-2019 school year.
In 2024, the school is honored to have Ha Nhi, a student of class 12D1, as the national valedictorian with 3 scores of 10.
