Ho Chi Minh City organizes many activities to commemorate and pay tribute to President Ton Duc Thang
Dai Doan Ket Newspaper reported that the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City and the Ton Duc Thang Museum recently held a meeting to celebrate the 137th birthday of President Ton Duc Thang (August 20, 1888 - August 20, 2025).
At the meeting, the Ton Duc Thang Museum also received many valuable artifacts and documents donated by representatives of President Ton Duc Thang's family. Notably, these were household items that Uncle Ton and his wife had used at the house at 35 Tran Phu Street (Hanoi) since 1959; photos recording Uncle Ho's activities during the period 1968-1979; and many diplomatic gifts presented to President Ton Duc Thang by ambassadors from the Soviet Union, Poland, and Czechoslovakia.
On this occasion, Mr. Vien Hong Quang also presented the Ton Duc Thang Museum with 24 valuable documentary films, recording Uncle Ton's revolutionary activities from 1964 to 1976.
On the same day, a delegation of leaders of the City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City led by Mr. Le Hoang Hai - Member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, Deputy Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, came to offer incense to commemorate President Ton Duc Thang. After offering incense, the leaders cut the ribbon to open the thematic exhibition "25 years of Ton Duc Thang Award". The exhibition was organized by the Ton Duc Thang Museum, with many precious images, documents and artifacts.
Ho Chi Minh City collects more than 8.5 billion VND in fees for temporary use of roads and sidewalks
Tuoi Tre Newspaper reported that the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction has just reported to the City People's Committee on the management and temporary exploitation of a part of the roadway and sidewalk.

To date, the collected fees are about VND8.5 billion. Of which, VND7 billion was recorded before March 2025 and more than VND1.5 billion was collected from March to July this year. This revenue mainly comes from festival activities, sports and car parking during charging time. The department is currently coordinating with 168 wards and communes to continue reviewing data after the administrative unit rearrangement.
According to the Department of Construction, the temporary use of roads and sidewalks for purposes other than traffic is still being implemented in accordance with legal regulations. The city is currently applying fees according to issued and effective resolutions.
To adapt to the reality, the Department has submitted to the City People's Committee a draft decision to abolish the old regulation, and at the same time proposed to build a new resolution. The Department also coordinated with units to research the project of exploiting and using roads and sidewalks in line with people's needs and recommended the Ministry of Construction to advise the Government to complete the legal basis. In addition, the Department will continue to review and evaluate the construction of toll collection management software for synchronous application throughout the city.
Travel on September 2nd holiday heats up every day
According to the reporter of Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, many airlines such as Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet, Bamboo Airways, Vietravel Airlines are selling air tickets for the route Ho Chi Minh City - Hanoi during the September 2 holiday. The current ticket price is about 4 - 4.3 million VND/round trip per passenger, depending on the departure time.

To meet the increased travel demand of passengers, airlines have simultaneously increased flights during the holiday. Vietnam Airlines said it will sharply increase the number of flights during the 6 peak days from August 29 to September 3, providing nearly 600,000 seats across its entire flight network, equivalent to nearly 2,900 flights, an increase of more than 100,000 seats compared to last year.
Regarding the service for passengers during the September 2 holiday, a representative of the new Eastern Bus Station said that the number of passengers traveling during this year's holiday is expected to increase by 27% compared to the same period, with peak days being August 29 and 30 reaching about 14,500 passengers/day, double the normal days. Passengers are concentrated on short routes from Da Nang to Ho Chi Minh City. Regarding ticket prices, most businesses will charge a surcharge of no more than 40% to compensate for empty buses on August 29 and 30.
Similarly, at Mien Tay Bus Station, the routes from Ho Chi Minh City to Rach Gia, Ha Tien, and Chau Doc are very popular. Mr. Tran Nhan Hau - Head of Operations at Mien Tay Bus Station - said that up to now, the total number of tickets booked and sold in advance during the holidays is about 35,000/230,000 tickets (15% of the total ticket output).
University benchmark scores for some majors are expected to skyrocket to over 29.5.
Thanh Nien Newspaper reported that as of the afternoon of August 20, after the 11th round of virtual group and nationwide filtering, many universities have announced their predicted admission scores for the first round this year.

Master Hoang Thanh Tu, Deputy Head of the Information and Communication Department of the University of Natural Sciences (VNU-HCM), said that the admission scores for all majors at the school this year have all increased, including new majors that have met their quotas at high scores. In particular, the advanced computer science program continues to be the major with the highest admission score at the school, at over 29 points for the A00 combination (math - physics - chemistry). According to Master Tu, this admission score trend is due to the fact that this year the number of candidates applying to the school has more than doubled compared to last year, to over 60,000.
Dr. Nguyen Tan Tran Minh Khang, Vice Principal of the University of Information Technology (VNU-HCM), also said that after the 11th virtual filtering, the expected benchmark scores for the school's majors are between 24 and over 29.5 points. "The expected benchmark scores for 2025 this year are clearly differentiated. The benchmark scores for "key" majors such as artificial intelligence and microchip design have skyrocketed.
Master Pham Thai Son, Director of the Admissions and Communications Center of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, also said that this year's admission scores of the school tend to increase evenly in most majors, ranging from 17 to 24.75 points. In particular, the majors that have attracted a large number of students in recent years still recorded admission scores equal to or higher than in 2024, such as: logistics and supply chain management, marketing, law, tourism, information technology, and food technology.
Launching Dong Thanh Commune Business Association

Ho Chi Minh City welcomes widespread thunderstorms
According to Tien Phong newspaper, since early this morning, August 21, many places in Ho Chi Minh City have had widespread and prolonged rain. The Southern and Central Highlands Hydrometeorological Station said that monitoring satellite cloud images, weather radar images and lightning positioning showed that the thunderstorm area is developing and causing rain with thunderstorms and lightning in the suburbs and center of Ho Chi Minh City.

In the coming hours, thunderstorms are forecast to continue to develop, causing showers, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in the above areas, then expanding to other neighboring areas. Rainfall is generally from 25-60mm, in some places over 70mm. During thunderstorms, beware of tornadoes, hail and strong gusts of wind of about level 5-7 (8-17m/s), heavy rain causing localized flooding.
