A statement posted on social network X said President Petr Pavel would remain in hospital for some time. His injuries are not serious but he will need to be monitored at the Prague Military University Hospital.
On May 23, the Czech Presidential Office announced that President Petr Pavel was taken to a hospital in Prague after a motorcycle accident and his injuries were "not serious".
Speaking on Czech TV, Vit Kolar - spokesman for the President of the Czech Republic, said that President Pavel is expected to be hospitalized for 3 days from May 24 and this will not significantly affect the President's work schedule.
Earlier, the office of President Petr Pavel announced that he would visit Jordan, but it was not clear whether the trip was scheduled for next week. According to a diplomatic source, Mr. Pavel is also expected to meet with foreign ministers of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) member countries and attend an informal meeting in Prague on May 31.
The country's media reported that President Petr Pavel had an accident inside a closed racetrack, so police did not open an investigation into the incident.
Mr. Petr Pavel, 62 years old, took office as president in March 2023. He is known as a motorcycle enthusiast and currently rides a BMW R1200 GS. Mr. Pavel rode his motorcycle to visit neighboring Germany shortly after taking office.
