The Russian defense industry is developing strongly with the production of extremely dangerous weapons, such as the Oreshnik medium-range hypersonic ballistic missile or Project 885M (Yasen-M) submarines.

On December 22, TASS news agency reported that in an interview with VGTRK journalist Pavel Zarubin, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the production and testing of the Oreshnik ballistic missile had become "a historic event for the domestic space rocket industry".
"There has never been an event like this involving this weapon," he stressed, revealing that the leader himself had given direct instructions for the production and testing of Oreshnik amid differing opinions at the Russian Defense Ministry on the matter.
On November 21, Moscow launched Oreshnik missiles for the first time at the Ukrainian city of Dnipro in response to Kiev's use of US ATACMS and British Storm Shadow ballistic missiles to attack Russian territory with Western permission.
President Putin has repeatedly praised the power of the Oreshnik. At his year-end press conference on December 20, he especially praised this "purely Russian" weapon, asserting that it is difficult to be intercepted by modern air defense systems, including those that the West is deploying in Poland.
According to the leader, the appearance of Oreshnik demonstrates a remarkable development in Moscow's defense capabilities.
Also on December 22, TASS news agency quoted a source as saying that the newest nuclear-powered submarine K-564 Arkhangelsk, belonging to Project 885M, built at the Sevmash Shipyard in northwestern Russia, will join the country's Navy on New Year's Eve, December 31.
The Arkhangelsk submarine was rolled out of the Sevmash Shipyard's pier and launched on November 29, 2023 to complete the ship's construction on the water. According to the source, the submarine has successfully passed sea trials and is completely ready for handover to the Navy .
Russian media reported that the submarines built under project 885M are 119m long, with a surface displacement of 8,600 tons and a submerged displacement of 13,800 tons.
According to Army Recognition, Project 885M submarines can travel at speeds of up to 35 knots, or 40.3 miles per hour (65 km/h). This is extremely fast compared to other nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines in the world . The submarine can safely dive to a depth of about 1,968 feet (600 m), and swim autonomously for 100 days at sea.
These ships are equipped with Oniks, Zircon or Kalibr hypersonic missiles and torpedo tubes as their basic offensive weapons. With this formidable equipment, the ships are capable of attacking enemy targets from a long distance as well as reliably dealing with enemy surface fleets.
In addition, the stealth capabilities of Project 885M ships allow them to approach high-value targets undetected, posing a constant threat to enemy naval operations.
In an article, The National Interest magazine stated that among the 5 submarines "capable of destroying the world" in 30 minutes, 3 are Russian and the Project 885M submarine is on this list.
Currently, the Sevmash shipyard is building four Project 885M submarines: Perm, Ulyanovsk, Vladivostok and Voronezh. The nuclear-powered submarines Severodvinsk, Kazan, Novosibirsk and Krasnoyarsk, also of the same project, have been delivered to the Russian Navy.
