Besides Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, localities such as Khanh Hoa, Quang Ninh, and Da Nang all experienced impressive growth in tourism revenue and visitor numbers in 2024.
Ho Chi Minh City is one of the localities with the highest total number of tourists and tourism revenue in the country, with 44 million visitors and 190,000 billion VND, an increase of nearly 19% compared to 2023. The city has also received many prestigious awards such as being honored as the leading Festival, Event and Business Tourism Destination, the top MICE destination in Asia, and one of the top 25 must-visit destinations in 2025.
Hanoi ranked second, with nearly 28 million visitors and total tourism revenue reaching 110,000 billion VND, an increase of over 18% compared to last year. According to experts, 2024 will be a "bumper year" for Hanoi tourism, as the destination has been continuously honored with many major awards such as Tripadvisor and the World Travel Awards (WTA).
Besides the two largest cities in the country, Quang Ninh is the third name on the list, with an estimated total of over 19 million visitors and total revenue exceeding 46,000 billion VND. On average, each visitor spent 2.45 million VND, an increase of 300,000 VND compared to 2023. This locality was heavily affected by Typhoon Yagi. According to tourism CEOs, if there hadn't been a natural disaster, Quang Ninh's year-end results would have been even higher.
Khanh Hoa has become a "phenomenon" in Vietnam's tourism industry. According to the report of the Provincial Tourism Development Steering Committee, all tourism indicators exceeded targets early and increased significantly compared to last year. The province welcomed over 10.6 million visitors, an increase of nearly 46% compared to 2023, including an estimated 4.5 million international visitors. Total tourism revenue reached over 52,000 billion VND, exceeding the plan by 30.4%. Both the number of visitors and tourism revenue far surpassed those of 2019, the golden age of Vietnamese tourism.
Ninh Binh is also a bright spot in the tourism industry, exceeding its target by more than 16%, with over 8.7 million visitors. The province has actively promoted its tourism brand by participating in more than 30 domestic and international trade fairs. It has also organized numerous national and international cultural and sporting events to attract tourists, such as a series of activities commemorating the 10th anniversary of Trang An being recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural and Natural Heritage Site, a food festival, and a hot air balloon festival. As a result, Ninh Binh welcomed over 1.5 million international visitors in 2024, the highest number ever.
Other provinces and cities that also had high visitor numbers and revenue this year include Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Da Nang, Thanh Hoa, Lam Dong, Kien Giang, and Binh Dinh.
Regarding the 2025 plan, Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi continue to be the localities with the highest visitor numbers in the country. Hanoi expects to welcome 30 million visitors, while Ho Chi Minh City aims for 43.5 million. Quang Ninh aims to welcome one million more visitors than in 2024. Da Nang estimates 11.9 million, followed by Khanh Hoa with an estimated 11.8 million visitors.
