Toyota transforms its urban crossover into an off-road adventure vehicle with the Corolla Cross Hybrid Nasu Edition. Developed by its SPAD (Service Parts and Accessories Development) division, the version focuses on practical upgrades for outdoor use: underbody protection, roof-mounted cargo, auxiliary lighting, and reorganized storage space.
Inspired by Japan’s Mount Nasu and the purple hue “nasu” (eggplant), the car has a distinct parallax look: distinctive in appearance, while maximizing functionality off the road. Toyota will bring the Nasu Edition to the 2025 SEMA Show in Las Vegas; the company has not yet announced plans for commercialization.

From urban crossover to adventure model: the Nasu philosophy
The Nasu Edition does not change the core technical platform of the Corolla Cross Hybrid, but reinforces the “tool” layers for long journeys and complex terrain. SPAD focuses on three key points: protection, lighting and load carrying. This is suitable for the needs of overlanding, where durability, flexibility and autonomy are more important than speed.
With that philosophy, Toyota keeps the hybrid powertrain but expands the perspective of use: you can leave the asphalt, go further and stay longer thanks to the intelligently organized storage compartment.
Design: Nasu purple and off-road spirit
The exclusive body kit combined with the air intake on the hood creates a visual highlight and suggests the cooling capacity when carrying heavy loads. The front and rear bumpers are made "thicker" to be compatible with the anti-collision bar, helping to limit damage when contacting rocks and high steps.
At the front of the car, the auxiliary LED strip and the improved fog lamp cluster increase the projection area and the rain and fog penetration. On the roof, the rack with a swivel roof rack helps change the lashing configuration, meeting the different shaped loads.

The ultimate cabin for camping
Inside, the Nasu Edition is off-road-styled, focusing on practicality rather than adornment. Highlights include a system of drawers in the luggage compartment and an accompanying refrigerator, allowing for neat organization of belongings, food and tools. The car also comes with a “custom” bicycle to pay tribute to young talent Asa Vermette, emphasizing the message associated with outdoor activities.
Creating a “mobile logistics station” right in the cargo compartment reduces the time it takes to set up camp, as well as keeping the center of gravity of the cargo in a controlled position, contributing to stability when the vehicle is moving.
Performance: 199-hp hybrid, ECVT and practical AWD
The Corolla Cross Hybrid Nasu Edition uses a 2.0L 4-cylinder gasoline engine with a capacity of 152 horsepower, combined with a hybrid system for a total maximum capacity of 199 horsepower. Power is transmitted through an ECVT gearbox and a full-time 4-wheel drive system.
The off-road package focuses on durability and grip: bespoke wheels paired with Toyo Open Country A/T III off-road tires. A/T tires typically have a stronger tread pattern and sidewall, which helps clear mud and gravel and reduces the risk of tearing, but can increase rolling noise and fuel consumption on asphalt.
The anti-collision bar helps you feel more secure when going over rough terrain. Although Toyota does not publish parameters such as ground clearance or approach/departure angles, this equipment package shows the orientation of "going far - going durable", instead of going fast.

Safety and technology: enhanced lighting, information still open
Compared to the standard version, the most obvious new features are the LED auxiliary lighting strip and improved fog lights. Toyota has not announced the addition of advanced driver assistance systems specifically for the Nasu Edition, nor has an independent safety assessment (NCAP) for a concept like this.
Price and positioning: SEMA stage, signal for genuine accessories
The Nasu Edition is a testament to the fact that a mainstream crossover can still be an adventure car if equipped properly. Toyota’s choice of SPAD-developed accessories shows a more mainstream, unified approach and the ability to guarantee and install more conveniently than discrete aftermarket upgrades.
There is no price or commercialization roadmap yet. If produced, this will be a notable choice for users who want to enter the world of light overlanding, taking advantage of the Corolla Cross's 199-horsepower hybrid system and AWD.

Conclusion: a practical, well-rounded upgrade package
- Pros: genuine SPAD accessories; A/T tires and anti-collision bars increase “resistance”; flexible swivel roof rack; useful auxiliary lighting; 199-horsepower hybrid platform, economical AWD and enough traction for light camping.
- Limitations: as a concept, not sure to commercialize; lack of key parameters (ground clearance, approach/departure angle); A/T tires can increase noise and consumption on asphalt.
In its performance role, the Corolla Cross Hybrid Nasu Edition convinces with its “right-placed” upgrade philosophy, showing a practical direction in turning the urban crossover into a reliable companion on long trips.
