Ho Chi Minh City proposes naming a street after journalist, hero, and People's Artist Pham Khac

VHO - The Advisory Council for naming and renaming streets and public works in Ho Chi Minh City has just agreed to propose naming an alley connecting two main roads in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City after journalist, hero of the people, and People's Artist Pham Khac.

Specifically, the alley is nearly 300m long, with a road width of 10m, connecting from alley 12 Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street to alley 5 Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street, located opposite Ho Chi Minh City Television Station, where journalist Pham Khac has worked for more than three decades, making important contributions to the construction and development of the television industry.

This is the only route in the list of 62 routes proposed to be named or renamed this time that is named after a journalist, an event of special significance commemorating the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025).

Journalist Pham Khac (1939–2007), from Ben Tre province, joined the revolution in 1949. He was one of the pioneers, laying the foundation for Vietnamese revolutionary journalism - television - cinema.

In 1991, he was Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City Television Station, Director of TFS Television Film Studio; in 1996, he was Director of Ho Chi Minh City Television Station; and was also the director and cameraman of many historical works.

Journalist and People's Artist Pham Khac participated in filming films such as: Victory at Don Cay Diep , Victory at Binh Gia (Nguyen Dinh Chieu Award 1965), Fiery Dong Xoai , Victory at Tay Ninh, Hanoi - the 5-day confrontation (First prize in journalism and first prize in art at the Prague International Film Festival in 1972);

Works Hanoi - Dien Bien Phu (Silver Lotus Award, 2nd Vietnam Film Festival, 1972), Pearl Island (Silver Lotus Award, 4th Vietnam Film Festival, 1977), Ben Tre - Green Coconut Islands, Saret's Story, When the Cranes Return, ...

In particular, the Mekong Chronicle (92 episodes) edited and directed by him won the Golden Kite Award in 2006, and is considered a major milestone in Vietnamese television documentaries.

He also made great contributions to building Ho Chi Minh City Television Station into a Labor Hero unit in the Renovation period in 2001, while training a generation of talented directors, cameramen, and reporters for the television industry.

With his great contributions, journalist - People's Artist Pham Khac was awarded by the State the Third Class Independence Medal, the First Class Anti-American Resistance Medal, the Second - Third Class Feat of Arms Medal, the First Class Liberation Medal, the title of Meritorious Artist (1984), People's Artist (1997) and Hero of Labor in the Renovation period (2000), the 45-year Party membership badge and many other noble awards.

The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ho Chi Minh City - the Standing Agency of the Ho Chi Minh City Street Name Advisory Council has posted information to solicit public opinions on naming streets this time in districts 1, 11, 12, Hoc Mon district and adjusting the route of some streets in districts 7 and 12, including the proposed name of Pham Khac street for public comments.
