Speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , a representative of the Road Traffic Infrastructure Management Center (under the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction) said that in June 2025, a pilot system of illuminated traffic signs will be installed in 5 locations with heavy traffic.
5 points with glowing traffic signs
Specifically, location 1 is the pedestrian crossing in front of 18 Ton Duc Thang, Sai Gon Ward. Location 2 is Pham Van Chi Bridge, Binh Phu Ward with 2 illuminated signs on the height restriction frame including a sign prohibiting passenger cars and trucks, and height restriction.
Location 3 is Lang Cha Ca roundabout, Tan Son Nhat ward - Tan Son Hoa ward. Here, 3 illuminated signs are installed on the gantry at the roundabout, prohibiting passenger cars, prohibiting trucks and limiting height (towards Truong Chinh street).
Location 4, also at Lang Cha Ca roundabout, Tan Son Nhat ward - Tan Son Hoa ward, installed 2 illuminated traffic signs on the gantry at the roundabout, prohibiting trucks and limiting height (towards Pham Van Hai street going to the airport).
Location 5 at Hoang Van Thu pedestrian bridge, Tan Son Hoa ward, install illuminated traffic signs on the pedestrian bridge with height restrictions.
According to the center's representative, illuminated traffic signs are signs with LED backlights that help attract the attention of traffic participants, especially at night or in low light conditions.
During the pilot period, the monitoring center evaluated the illuminated traffic sign system to help road users increase their visibility, especially at night and in bad weather conditions. People can recognize information and traffic signals from a distance, even in low light conditions, heavy rain, fog, or areas with poor lighting.
This helps reduce the risk of traffic accidents on complex roads and areas where accidents often occur. When information is displayed more clearly, drivers have better reaction time, timely adjust speed and direction, reducing the risk of collision.
"Easy to identify, people travel more safely"
According to Tuoi Tre Online on the evening of July 9, at Lang Cha Ca roundabout (Tan Son Nhat ward, Tan Son Hoa ward), traffic was bustling. When it got dark, three traffic signs lit up. Standing from a distance, passersby could easily see the shapes and numbers on the signs.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Hung (55 years old) said that he has been working here for a few months but found the traffic density quite high and the traffic quite complicated. Since installing the illuminated signs, drivers can see better from a distance and passersby feel more secure.
Ngoc Huy (25 years old, living on the roundabout) said he feels more secure when participating in traffic since the signs were installed with LED lights. "Small cars like mine are easy to see, but big cars coming from far away have a hard time seeing the signs.
This is also a practical solution for people's lives that needs to be replicated at complex intersections to ensure safety and effectively reduce traffic violations. Authorities should prioritize surveying and installing signs for one-way streets and prohibited roads...".
The Road Traffic Infrastructure Management Center added that it is coordinating with units to continue monitoring and evaluating to propose reasonable replication and improve traffic safety in Ho Chi Minh City. Recently, the center has also implemented many groups of solutions on traffic organization and pilot initiatives to reduce congestion and collisions, and make people feel secure when traveling.
