Reduce logistics costs
This is one of the important meanings at the Conference on Promoting Cooperation in the New International Road and Sea Trade Corridor between Chongqing (China) and Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) which took place on the afternoon of September 24.
At the conference, Mr. Vo Van Hoan, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, said that Ho Chi Minh City has the mission of being a multi-faceted center of the country, with a synchronous transportation system including air, river, sea, road, and railway.
Mr. Hoan said Ho Chi Minh City is determined to build 180km of urban railway by 2035 and invite Chongqing to participate in the city's urban railway system.
According to Mr. Hoan, Ho Chi Minh City wants to develop Can Gio district into a logistics center and build Can Gio transit port (currently in the planning stage) of Southeast Asian scale. After construction, Can Gio transit port can connect with Trung Khanh port, thereby promoting multi-faceted development, creating opportunities for Chinese goods to expand their market in southern Vietnam.
Mr. Zheng Xiangdong, Vice Mayor of Chongqing, informed about the potential and opportunities of the new international trade corridor.
According to Mr. Trinh Huong Dong, Chongqing is one of the four municipalities directly under the central government of China, the strategic economic center of Southwest China. Chongqing has built three main logistics models including railway and sea transportation, cross-border transportation, and international transportation.
The system directly connects 72 cities and 154 train stations in 18 provinces in China, and accesses 538 ports in 125 countries worldwide. This enables Ho Chi Minh City and Chongqing to cooperate more effectively in developing supply chains, enhancing competitiveness in the international market.
With the new Chongqing - Ho Chi Minh City international road and sea trade corridor, many businesses said at the conference that it will not only help reduce logistics costs but also open up many economic cooperation opportunities between the two sides. This will help Vietnamese businesses access a larger market, while improving international competitiveness.
