(NLĐO) - Ho Chi Minh City is preparing to start construction on a series of infrastructure projects worth over 10 billion USD, including metro, expressways, sea bridges, and many major transportation arteries.

Leading up to the 50th anniversary of Ho Chi Minh City being named after President Ho Chi Minh on July 2, 2026, the city is accelerating procedures to simultaneously commence construction on many strategic infrastructure projects with a total investment of over 10 billion USD, equivalent to more than 250,000 billion VND.

Among these, the most prominent are: The Thu Thiem - Long Thanh railway line is approximately 47.7 km long, passing through Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai province, with 19 stations including 2 underground and 17 elevated stations. The project is proposed by Dai Quang Minh Real Estate Investment Joint Stock Company, a subsidiary of THACO , under the BT (Build-Transfer) model, with a preliminary estimated investment of approximately 84,000 billion VND.

The line is designed to be technologically synchronized with Ho Chi Minh City's metro network and will directly connect to Long Thanh Airport upon completion in 2030.

At the same time, the Ho Tram - Long Thanh Airport urban expressway project is also being accelerated for groundbreaking on July 2nd. The route is over 42 km long, with its starting point connecting to Ho Chi Minh City's Ring Road 4 and Provincial Road 991, and its end point connecting to the Vung Tau - Binh Chau coastal road. The project is planned with 8 lanes of expressway and parallel roads, with a total investment of over 51,500 billion VND, proposed by Masterise Long Thanh - Ho Tram Expressway Infrastructure Joint Stock Company.

Another large-scale project is the Can Gio sea bridge and road project proposed by Can Gio Tourism Urban Development Joint Stock Company ( Vingroup ). The preliminary total investment is approximately 93,016 billion VND. According to the new revised plan, the route is over 14 km long, including an over 8 km sea bridge and nearly 3.9 km of sea tunnel. The project is designed according to urban main road standards with 6 lanes, a speed limit of 80 km/hour, and is expected to be completed in 2029.

In the eastern part of Ho Chi Minh City, the Cat Lai - Phu Huu inter-port road is also scheduled to begin construction around this time. The project is nearly 6 km long and 60 m wide, directly connecting Cat Lai Port with the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway and Ring Road 3. The total investment is approximately 8,782 billion VND, with a completion timeframe of 2029.

In addition to inter-regional connecting routes, Ho Chi Minh City is also simultaneously implementing many important urban transport projects. Among them, the Thu Thiem 4 bridge, with a total investment of over 5,063 billion VND, is expected to be completed by the end of 2028 to improve connectivity between the Thu Thiem new urban area and the southern part of the city.

The Binh Tien bridge and road project, with a total investment of nearly 6,300 billion VND, is also accelerating its construction progress after many years of waiting. The route, approximately 3.66 km long, is designed as an elevated bridge from the Binh Tien - Pham Van Chi intersection to Nguyen Van Linh Boulevard, contributing to reducing traffic pressure in the western and southern areas of Ho Chi Minh City.

Nguyen Tat Thanh Street will be expanded to 8 to 10 lanes.

Furthermore, following the groundbreaking ceremony for the Ben Nha Rong - Khanh Hoi Cultural Park on April 30th, Ho Chi Minh City continues to expand Nguyen Tat Thanh Street to 8-10 lanes, construct the Hoang Dieu underpass, upgrade Tan Thuan Bridge, and invest in three additional pedestrian bridges across the river to revitalize the central riverside space.
