Tran De commune has a 12km coastline, favorable for local marine economic development.

Tran De commune was formed on the basis of merging three administrative units: Tran De town, Dai An 2 commune and Trung Binh commune. Not only does it have a new administrative position, the merger also opens up new development space for the locality because Tran De has 12km of coastline, adjacent to two seaports: Tran De and My Thanh.

Over the years, coastal residents have developed the fishing industry with a fleet of 520 vessels, including 337 offshore fishing vessels, 42 logistics service vessels and 183 inshore fishing vessels. The local government has effectively implemented policies to support fishermen in offshore fishing and strongly develop fishing logistics services. Thanks to that, in the period of 2020-2025, the total output of aquatic products of the commune reached 247,179 tons of shrimp and fish of all kinds.

Tran De fishing port is currently ranked among the 15 largest fishing ports in the country, with a location near the fishing grounds, conveniently connected to key traffic routes such as Nam Song Hau National Highway, National Highway 60, National Highway 1A and the provincial road network connecting to create an axis for marine economic development. These are favorable conditions to attract a large number of fishing vessels to dock and use the port's marine fishing logistics services. In the first 6 months of 2025 alone, the number of vessels docking and staying at Tran De fishing port reached 9,703, reaching 103% of the plan; the amount of goods passing through the port was 55,511 tons, reaching 70% of the plan, of which aquatic products were 33,208 tons.

According to Mr. Pham Van Hua, Director of Tran De Fishing Port Management Board, in recent times, the unit has coordinated with specialized departments and functional forces to propagate to fishermen to comply with the law on fishing. Thereby, the city's offshore fishing vessels do not violate IUU fishing at sea. The Fishing Port Management Board also creates favorable conditions for fishermen to have a place to anchor their ships, providing fishing logistics services such as loading and unloading, supplying fuel, fishing gear, repair, etc. At the same time, it closely coordinates with businesses in the port so that fishermen can quickly consume seafood.

In addition to the fishing port, the infrastructure in Tran De commune is also receiving synchronous and appropriate investment attention, with many key projects such as Tran De Industrial Park, Marine Economic Trade Zone, Mo O Fishing Port and Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang Expressway, section through Tran De. These are all major projects, not only creating a strong driving force to promote the socio-economic development of Tran De commune, but also making an important contribution to the overall development of Can Tho city. In particular, Tran De deep-water seaport is planned by the Government as a special seaport, taking on the role of a gateway port of the Mekong Delta region.

According to the plan, Tran De seaport has a total area of over 4,435 hectares, including a 4,000-hectare logistics area and a 435-hectare offshore port area. The port is designed with a 17.8km long sea wharf, capable of receiving container ships with a capacity of up to 100,000 DWT and bulk cargo ships with a capacity of up to 160,000 DWT. After completion, Tran De deep-water seaport will meet the needs of goods circulation, export of goods and agricultural products of the entire Mekong Delta region.

With its existing potential and advantages, Tran De district (old) has taken advantage of capital sources and called for investment in tourism development. Up to now, the Tran De - Con Dao Expressway in the commune has attracted over 139,000 people/year to Tran De. In addition, Tran De also owns a diverse mangrove ecosystem, combined with the Nam Hai Whale Festival with its strong cultural identity, creating favorable conditions for the development of ecological, cultural and spiritual tourism . This is a favorable condition to help increase budget revenue, create more jobs and improve income for people.

Mr. Ho Quang Dai, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tran De Commune, said that in the coming time, Tran De Commune will urgently review, supplement and adjust the master plan on socio-economic development; sectoral planning... on the basis of integrating the planning of the (old) localities to build a new planning for the commune, ensuring consistency, synchronization and maximizing the advantages of the new commune. At the same time, strive to achieve the status of an advanced new rural commune by 2030, being the economic center of the region with fields such as industry, trade services, tourism, logistics ports, processing industry, high-tech agriculture.
