Tran Thi Thanh Thuy and the record of going abroad

(LĐXH) - After saying goodbye to the Turkish tournament, Vietnam's number 1 volleyball player Tran Thi Thanh Thuy continues to try her hand in a foreign environment, this time in Indonesia.

6th time abroad

After ending her contract with PFU Blue Cats Club (Japan), Thanh Thuy joined Kuzeyboru Club in Türkiye. The Vietnamese player was registered in the official list of 14 players playing in the Turkish national championship.

However, in November 2024, the two sides decided to say goodbye to each other due to Thanh Thuy's injury. This is regrettable because if she had continued to stay, Thanh Thuy would have had many opportunities to develop herself.

Tran Thi Thanh Thuy continues to go abroad.

After parting ways with the Turkish club Kuzeyboru, Tran Thi Thanh Thuy continued to go abroad. The next destination is the Gresik Petrokimia Pupuk volleyball team of the Indonesian Women's Volleyball Championship (Proliga). At the new club, Thanh Thuy wears the familiar number 3 jersey. This is the 6th time Thanh Thuy has gone abroad, becoming the Vietnamese athlete to play for the most foreign teams.

VTV Binh Dien Long An team affirmed that the company as well as the team always create conditions for the female striker to have the opportunity to compete abroad, thereby further developing her professional skills. At Gresik Petrokimia Pupuk, Thanh Thuy will be the oldest player on the team, along with libero Ayu Salsabila.

The rest are young players, most of whom were born after 2000. Gresik Petrokimia Pupuk was founded in 2002, based in Gresik, East Java and is a member of the Indonesian Volleyball Federation (PBVSI).

In the Proliga, Gresik Petrokimia Pupuk has won the runner-up position 6 times, the most among women's volleyball clubs. With the move to the Indonesian league, Thanh Thuy is almost certain to have a starting position because she is one of the top players in the league.

Proliga 2025 will take place from January to May, including the following clubs: Jakarta Electric PLN, Jakarta Popsivo Polwan, Jakarta Pertamina Enduro, Gresik Petrokimia Pupuk, Bandung Bank bjb Tandamata, Jakarta Livin Mandiri and Yogyakarta Falcons. Thanh Thuy's Gresik Petrokimia will face Jakarta Pertamina Enduro on January 5. That could be Tran Thi Thanh Thuy's debut match at the Indonesian club.

Run-up to the World Cup

“We will create conditions for Thanh Thuy to continue playing abroad to help develop her skills. Hopefully Thanh Thuy will achieve good performance in Indonesia. Thanh Thuy’s contract with the team will have an immediate term of 1 season, until May,” said a representative of VTV Binh Dien Long An.

Proliga pays the highest salaries in Southeast Asia and is in the top 5 best in Asia. It is known that players competing in this tournament have an average income of about 135 million Rupiah (about 213 million VND/month).

This is not the largest amount of money that the Binh Duong native has ever received when playing abroad compared to the time he played in Japan, Thailand or Turkey. However, with his ability and the marks he has shown, Thanh Thuy will certainly receive a salary many times higher than the average of players playing domestically.

Recently, the Indonesian press has been very interested in Thanh Thuy's transfer. With the presence of Thanh Thuy, Gresik Petrokimia Pupuk Club is expected to improve its performance. Last season, Gresik Petrokimia Pupuk ranked 6th out of 7 participating teams.

By joining the Indonesian women's volleyball tournament, Tran Thi Thanh Thuy continues to be the only Vietnamese female volleyball player competing abroad at the moment. In 2025, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team will continue to compete internationally and Thanh Thuy is one of the players who will be in the coaching staff's professional plan.

If she competes regularly, Thanh Thuy will have the opportunity to compete with veteran players with high professional qualifications, thereby accumulating professional experience and competitive spirit for herself. This will not only help "4T" develop her career but also help the Vietnamese women's volleyball team prepare for the 2025 World Cup with the best preparation.

“Thanh Thuy’s playing abroad has benefited the Vietnamese women’s volleyball team a lot. However, if more athletes go abroad like Thanh Thuy, we will have the opportunity to develop,” said coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet.
