We have everything you need.
Before traveling to Da Nang , Nguyen Thi Thanh Dung (from Hue City) posted on a Facebook group called "Travel Items Resale Corner" to find items she needed for her trip to Da Nang, preferably within Da Nang itself. Over 200 comments were received within hours, with images of items suitable for various locations in Da Nang appearing for Dung to choose from. Quickly settling on a few items, Thanh Dung shared: "This method offers many benefits; I don't need to bring bulky luggage, I can choose items that suit the destination, and I save money, because some items are only suitable for traveling there."
Passing on (transferring) used items has become a trend among young people. For travelers, there's even a whole community for buying and selling used travel items through online marketplaces. Ms. Ngo Thanh Van (26 years old) shared that, although they're called "used," these travel item resale platforms have many advantages. The items are usually only used a few times, are still quite new, and are suitable for wearing once or twice for photos at a tourist destination.
According to many young people, a set of clothes can be worn only a couple of times before getting bored, or they might buy something online because they really like it but it doesn't fit. Throwing it away is wasteful, but keeping it is pointless and just takes up space, so the best solution is to sell it to communities that buy and sell used items. These online travel item trading platforms on social media offer a wide variety of travel items, from clothes and hats to bags and accessories. Items that are sometimes hard to find in markets or clothing shops are easily found on these travel item trading platforms, as they serve as a meeting place for people with similar passions. The special thing is that because they are used items, the price is usually only 30-60% of the price of new items, even though they are still in about 90% new condition. Some items even still have their tags on, because the previous owners bought them but missed the opportunity to use them on their trips.
Ms. Vân explained that the lifespan of clothes seems to be extended through the resale market. A dress with accessories might cost less than 200,000 VND, but it passes through many hands. As long as the wearer takes good care of the clothes, not damaging or wearing them out, they can still resell them to someone else who needs them after traveling. "It's said to be as cheap as renting, but it's actually cheaper, because many people buy clothes from resale channels, use them, and then resell them to others," Ms. Vân assessed.
Online marketplaces are booming.
During the summer, the demand for travel increases, leading to the emergence of many online marketplaces selling and exchanging used travel items, resembling bustling online markets with numerous buyers and sellers. Along with the owners of these items, several clothing shops also offer their goods, catering to the demand for affordable travel accessories.
Besides channels for reselling travel items, there are also communities for selling beachwear, buying and selling travel gear, etc. Some groups have up to 140,000 members, with dozens of posts daily about exchanging and buying/selling travel items. From simple status updates from sellers or buyers, young people create online marketplaces to buy and sell items. Because these online communities bring together young people who like to hunt for new items to satisfy their needs, they easily exchange and resell items, finding new owners for them.
From exchanging and selling travel items, many groups also connect members, with sellers advising buyers on fashion choices, photo spots, and angles at tourist destinations. Gradually, they become acquainted through their shared love of travel and exchanging items after each trip when they find they have similar tastes.
Through secondhand clothing markets, many young people also want to spread a green lifestyle. According to Nguyen Thi My Ngoc, a young person in the travel clothing exchange community, clothes are essential human needs, but the indiscriminate use and rapid disposal of old clothes into the environment has caused pollution. Therefore, items that are only used a few times for travel, if exchanged or transferred properly, will help extend the lifespan of clothes by disposing of them correctly instead of burning or burying them.
