The test was conducted on May 26th, as part of North Korea's defense modernization program.
According to a report cited by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), as part of a plan to modernize its artillery and missile forces to achieve its five-year defense development goals, the new weapons test aimed to assess the warhead power of tactical ballistic missiles, the reliability of a 240mm guided rocket artillery system with extended range and ultra-precise guidance, and the target accuracy capability of tactical cruise missiles using artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
Leader Kim Jong Un welcomed the test results, emphasizing that it was a clear signal of the country's enhanced military capabilities, demonstrating a significant advancement in North Korea's combat prowess. The North Korean leader particularly praised the new tactical cruise missile, while outlining important tasks to further the stable development of the country's defense capabilities and the development of ultra-modern military equipment.
Earlier, on May 26, the South Korean military announced the detection of multiple missiles, including short-range ballistic missiles and rocket artillery, launched toward the Yellow Sea from the Jongju area in North Phyongan Province, North Korea. The South Korean military stated that it was increasing its monitoring of developments related to North Korea's missile launches and coordinating and sharing information with the United States and Japan.
