Attending were representatives of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, local authorities, plant seed businesses and households participating in the model.
The model was implemented in Quan Nua village with a scale of 1.2 hectares with 13 participating households. The households were supported with 100% rice seeds by Vietnam High-Tech Agricultural Materials and Seeds Joint Stock Company; the private enterprise Quoc Anh Plant Seeds supported fertilizers in the form of deferred payment. During the implementation process, the Agricultural Service Center of Bac Kan city directly guided the cultivation techniques according to the organic production process based on the improved rice cultivation technique (SRI).
After 3 months of implementation, the model initially showed clear effectiveness. The QR15 variety adapts well to local soil conditions, the plants grow strongly, have strong stems, and are less susceptible to pests and diseases than the commonly cultivated purebred rice varieties. The growing period of the variety lasts from 125-135 days, with an estimated yield of 6.5-8 quintals/1,000m². In addition, the QR15 rice variety is resistant to some common diseases such as blast and brown spot.
The implementation of the demonstration model not only helps people access high-quality rice varieties and grasp the organic production process, but also contributes to soil improvement, increases production efficiency, opens up prospects for applying new varieties to cultivation, towards the development of sustainable agriculture./.
