In Thai, “Xen” means to worship and pray. The village Xen ceremony is usually held around February to March of the lunar calendar, when people prepare to enter a new planting season. This is a spiritual ceremony presided over by shamans to invite the village guardian gods, river gods, mountain gods, land gods, and gods who manage the fields to attend, enjoy the offerings that the villagers sincerely offer, and bless the people with good health, good crops, and a peaceful and prosperous village.

At the opening ceremony, the shaman lit incense, prayed to the gods to witness and make offerings, including rice, paddy, corn, wine, fabric, pigs, chickens, etc. The offering ceremony took place solemnly and respectfully, with the typical cultural features of the Thai ethnic group.

The festival is when people have fun together, dance, and sing, creating an atmosphere of village solidarity.
