Specifically, the area of green hemp planted in Cam Hieu and Cam Thanh communes (Cam Lo district), Linh Truong commune (Gio Linh district) and Trieu Nguyen commune (Dakrong district), each commune is 1 hectare.
During the model implementation process, Quang Tri Trading Corporation Joint Stock Company supported 100% of fertilizers and pesticides for two crops; committed to purchasing products at a price of 40 million VND/1 ton of dry hemp bark; An Phuoc Investment and Trading Group Joint Stock Company supported 100% of seeds, transferred planting, care, harvesting techniques, and lent harvesting machines.
Before implementing the model, Quang Tri Trading Corporation organized a tour for cooperative staff and some participating households to visit and learn from experiences in Thanh Hoa province.
Currently, local farmers are planting seeds. It is expected that by May 2025, when the hemp plants have finished harvesting the second crop, the units will evaluate the effectiveness and have a plan for expansion.
Green hemp is an industrial plant mainly used for its bark, which is used as raw material for weaving high-quality fabrics. Hemp plants can be harvested for the first crop from the third month of planting, then from 1.5 to 2 months for the next crop; on average, they are harvested 4 times a year, each time about 30 tons of fresh bark/ha, equivalent to 1 ton of dry bark; with the current purchase price, each hectare of green hemp can generate an income of about 160 million VND/year. The planting technique is easy, with few pests and diseases, suitable for many types of soil, and can be harvested within 10 years after planting once.
