Today (January 14), Reuters cited Bloomberg News' information that China is likely to sell the TikTok platform in the US to billionaire Elon Musk.
TikTok is entering a pivotal phase for its survival
After an initial setback at the US Supreme Court, TikTok's fate in the US remains unclear, but there are reports that China is considering a number of options, one of which is a sale to billionaire Elon Musk.
Mr. Musk will co-lead the Government Performance Board when the Donald Trump administration takes office. In addition, the American billionaire is also the founder of Tesla, SpaceX, owner of social network X (formerly known as Twitter) as well as other roles.
Beijing has not commented on the above information.

In a related development, two Democratic congressmen on January 13 urged the US Congress and President Joe Biden to extend the deadline for implementing a law that forces TikTok to transfer to American businessmen or else stop operating from January 19.
President Biden could extend the deadline by 90 days if he is certain that parent company ByteDance (based in Beijing) is on track to divest from the US, but ByteDance is unlikely to meet this requirement.
Senator Edward Markey shared his plan to introduce a bill to extend the deadline for ByteDance to sell TikTok. Markey said he thinks a 270-day extension is appropriate.
On the same day, Congressman Ro Khanna asked President Biden and President-elect Donald Trump to stop implementing the ban to avoid 170 million Americans losing their freedom of speech and the livelihoods of millions of people in this country being affected.
Last week, during a two-hour hearing in Washington DC on January 10 (local time), US Supreme Court justices appeared skeptical about the validity of TikTok's arguments when the company argued that the law passed by Congress eight months ago violated the First Amendment of the US Constitution on free speech, Reuters reported on January 11.
And recently, Mr. Trump's lawyers filed a petition with the Supreme Court asking the court to consider extending the deadline beyond January 19 so that Mr. Trump has time to consider a political solution to the case, according to Reuters.
