The meeting between US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi took place on October 26 in Washington DC. Reuters quoted the White House as saying that this was an opportunity for the US to discuss concerns related to the East Sea, efforts to restore communication channels between the two countries' militaries. The Hamas-Israel conflict in the Middle East was also on the agenda.

Before entering the meeting, the Chinese Foreign Minister admitted that the two countries had disagreements and needed in-depth, comprehensive dialogue to reduce misunderstandings, stabilize the relationship, and "bring it back to a healthy, stable and sustainable development trajectory."
Mr. Vuong said that the two countries share important common interests as well as challenges that need to be addressed together.
Secretary of State Blinken later said he agreed with his counterpart. After meeting with Mr. Blinken, Mr. Wang will meet with White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan on October 27.
The Chinese Foreign Minister's three-day visit to the US is the latest development in a series of diplomatic efforts between the two countries, as they seek to manage and prevent differences on many issues such as the East Sea, Taiwan, trade, etc. from becoming conflicts.
In a related development, the US military on October 26 accused a Chinese J-11 fighter jet of dangerously approaching a US B-52 bomber in the East Sea this week. The incident occurred on October 24 and the Chinese plane flew "just 10 feet" (about 3 meters) close to the B-52. Beijing did not immediately comment on the accusation.
