According to CNN, China will soon inaugurate the world's highest bridge - the Grand Canyon Huajiang Bridge - the latest engineering achievement of the country of a billion people.
The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge officially opened in Guizhou, a mountainous region with complex terrain in China, on January 18, 2022. The project is nearing completion and is expected to open on June 30, 2025.

The steel truss suspension bridge has a total length of 2,890m, is 625m above the river level, and weighs about 22,000 tons (equivalent to 2 Eiffel Towers). The estimated cost of the bridge is about 283 million USD. The bridge spans the majestic Huajiang Grand Canyon, known as China's "earth crack".
Not only will the bridge break the record for the world's tallest bridge, Duge (Beipanjiang Bridge, China), which is 565m high, but once it is in operation, cars and trucks will be able to pass through the area more easily.
According to Chinese state media, the bridge will shorten the travel time across the Huajiang Grand Canyon from two hours to just one minute.
“The overall progress of the bridge has now reached 95 percent and is expected to open to traffic in the second half of 2025,” chief engineer of Guizhou Highway Group Zhang Shenglin told China Daily .
“By then, this mega-project will span the “earth crack” and become a landmark project to demonstrate China’s infrastructure strength,” Zhang Shenglin added.
Today, eight of the world's 10 highest bridges are in China, and nearly half of the world's 100 highest bridges are in Guizhou. In addition, China is undertaking a nationwide campaign to improve infrastructure, especially in relatively underdeveloped mountainous regions.
