Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy develops 3 faculties into a school
The Council of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy has just issued a resolution to establish 3 affiliated schools on the basis of reorganizing the faculties of this school. The resolution was issued after the University Council reviewed and agreed at the 27th meeting of the 2020-2025 term.
Specifically, the School of Medicine was established on the basis of reorganizing the Faculty of Medicine. The Principal of the School of Medicine is Associate Professor, Dr. Phung Nguyen The Nguyen, previously the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine.
The School of Pharmacy was established on the basis of reorganizing the Faculty of Pharmacy, with Professor Tran Thanh Dao, previously Head of the Faculty of Pharmacy, as principal.
The School of Nursing and Medical Technology was established on the basis of reorganizing the Faculty of Nursing and Medical Technology. The Principal of the School of Nursing and Medical Technology is Dr. Tran Thuy Khanh Linh, previously the Head of the Faculty of Nursing and Medical Technology.
In addition to the three newly established schools, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy also has four faculties: Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Public Health , Faculty of Traditional Medicine, and Faculty of Basic Sciences. This university also has Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital (3 campuses) with 11 functional departments, 7 centers, and 4 functional units.

The Medical School has an organizational structure including: principal, vice principals; scientific and training council; functional departments (general administration department, science - training - foreign affairs department, quality assurance and testing department); 30 departments; centers (Family Doctor Center, Center for Advanced Clinical Simulation Training). This unit is headquartered at 217 Hong Bang, Ward 11, District 5, Ho Chi Minh City.
The School of Pharmacy has an organizational structure including: principal, vice principals; scientific and training council; functional departments (general administration department, science - training - foreign affairs department, quality assurance and testing department); 12 departments. The headquarters of the School of Pharmacy is located at 41-43 Dinh Tien Hoang, Ben Nghe ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.
The School of Nursing - Medical Technology has an organizational structure including: principal, vice principals; science and training council; functional departments (general administration department, science - training - foreign affairs department, quality assurance and testing department); 8 departments; Nursing - Medical Technology Skills Training Center. The headquarters of the School of Nursing - Medical Technology is located at 201 Nguyen Chi Thanh, Ward 12, District 5, Ho Chi Minh City.
Awarding the title of Honorary Professor to Professor Ho Hoi
Also at the 27th session of the 2020-2025 term, the University Council approved the awarding of the title of Honorary Professor to Professor Ho Hoi and Honorary Doctor to Dr. David Bao-Long Duong for his contributions and support to the medical doctor training program based on competency standards at the school.
The School Board also considered and approved the reorganization of Saigon Pharmaceutical Science and Technology Center into UMP Science and Technology Center; Regulations on the establishment, reorganization, and dissolution of affiliated units, subordinate units, and organizations under the unit; applying salary levels to employees recruited to perform support, service, and professional work according to Decree No. 111/2022/ND-CP dated December 30, 2022.
In 1947, Saigon Medical University, commonly known as Saigon Road Medical University - the predecessor of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy was established as a branch of Hanoi Medical University. Notably in the school's development history, in 2003, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy was renamed Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy according to Decision No. 2223/QD-BYT dated June 18, 2003 of the Minister of Health . Currently, the Board of Directors of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy includes: Associate Professor, Dr. Ngo Quoc Dat - Principal; Associate Professor, Dr. Vuong Thi Ngoc Lan and Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Chinh, as Vice Principals.
