Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy develops 3 faculties into a university.
The University Council of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy has just issued a resolution to establish three affiliated schools based on the reorganization of the university's faculties. The resolution was issued after the University Council considered and agreed upon the matter at its 27th meeting of the 2020-2025 term.
Specifically, the School of Medicine was established on the basis of reorganizing the Faculty of Medicine. The Rector of the School of Medicine is Associate Professor-Doctor Phung Nguyen The Nguyen, who was previously the Head of the Faculty of Medicine.
The School of Pharmacy was established on the basis of reorganizing the Faculty of Pharmacy, with Professor Tran Thanh Dao, formerly the Head of the Faculty of Pharmacy, as its principal.
The School of Nursing and Medical Technology was established by reorganizing the Faculty of Nursing and Medical Technology. The Principal of the School of Nursing and Medical Technology is Dr. Tran Thuy Khanh Linh, who was previously the Head of the Faculty of Nursing and Medical Technology.
In addition to the three newly established schools, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy also has four faculties: the Faculty of Dentistry, the Faculty of Public Health , the Faculty of Traditional Medicine, and the Faculty of Basic Sciences. The university also has the Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital (3 campuses) with 11 functional departments, 7 centers, and 4 functional units.
What is the structure of the schools like?
The Medical School has an organizational structure including: the principal, vice-principals; the scientific and training council; functional departments (general administration department, science - training - external relations department, quality assurance and examination department); 30 departments; and centers (Family Doctor Center, Clinical Simulation Advanced Training Center). This unit is located at 217 Hong Bang Street, Ward 11, District 5, Ho Chi Minh City.
The School of Pharmacy has an organizational structure including: the principal, vice-principals; the scientific and training council; functional departments (general administration department, science - training - external relations department, quality assurance and examination department); and 12 departments. The headquarters of the School of Pharmacy is located at 41-43 Dinh Tien Hoang Street, Ben Nghe Ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.
The School of Nursing and Medical Technology has an organizational structure comprising: a principal, vice-principals; a scientific and training council; functional departments (general administration department, science - training - external relations department, quality assurance and examination department); 8 departments; and the Center for Nursing and Medical Technology Skills Training. The school's headquarters are located at 201 Nguyen Chi Thanh Street, Ward 12, District 5, Ho Chi Minh City.
The title of Honorary Professor is bestowed upon Professor Ho Hoi.
Also at the 27th session of the 2020-2025 term, the University Council approved the conferment of the title of Honorary Professor to Professor Ho Hoi and Honorary Doctor to Dr. David Bao-Long Duong for their contributions and support to the competency-based medical doctor training program at the university.
The School Council also considered and approved the reorganization of the Saigon Pharmaceutical Science and Technology Center into the UMP Science and Technology Center; the regulations on the establishment, reorganization, and dissolution of affiliated and subordinate units and organizations; and the application of salary levels for employees recruited to perform support, service, and professional work according to Decree No. 111/2022/ND-CP dated December 30, 2022.
In 1947, the Saigon Medical University, commonly known as the Saigon Medical University – the predecessor of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy – was established as a branch of the Hanoi Medical University. Notably, in the university's history, in 2003, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy was renamed the Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy according to Decision No. 2223/QD-BYT dated June 18, 2003, of the Minister of Health . Currently, the Board of Directors of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy includes: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ngo Quoc Dat – Rector; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vuong Thi Ngoc Lan and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Chinh, as Vice Rectors.
