From the case of the teacher being knocked down: Many students are like "pressure cookers compressing steam"

(Dan Tri) - According to many teachers, many students nowadays are like "pressure cookers that are compressed with steam, and will explode if anyone touches them", so teachers also have to endure more pressure when teaching students.

Teacher Do Duc Anh, a teacher at Bui Thi Xuan High School, Ho Chi Minh City, confided that when he watched the clip recording the scene of a 7th grade male student grabbing the teacher's hair and knocking her down in class, many students witnessed it but remained indifferent, as a teacher, he was shocked, bewildered and in pain.

According to Mr. Do Duc Anh, a hit on a teacher does not only hurt a person. It is a slap in the face of respect for teachers. It is a slap in the face of school culture. Hitting a teacher in the classroom is not only an act of violence but also goes against human ethics.

Ms. Nguyen Minh Ngoc, former literature teacher at Dinh Thien Ly Secondary and High School, Ho Chi Minh City, also shared her choked up and heartbroken feelings when seeing the image of her teacher in the classroom on the day of the incident. For Ms. Ngoc, there was the pain of a teacher being crushed and knocked down by a student; there was the pain of the other students in the class just sitting and watching...

“I hope you have the strength to get through this sad situation. I hope you are protected so you don’t have to suffer alone. I send you a hug,” Ms. Ngoc sent to the teacher involved in the incident.

Along with the pain and sympathy, from this incident, many teachers once again looked straight at the challenges in the teaching profession, the increasingly high demands on teachers.

Ms. Le Minh Anh, a secondary school teacher in Ho Chi Minh City, said that in this incident, she wanted to send four hugs to the teacher who was abused by her student, the student who misbehaved, the students in the class, and also to herself and her profession.

Regarding the female colleague who was grabbed by the hair and knocked down by a student, Ms. Minh Anh said that the pain and humiliation are immeasurable, cannot be expressed in words, and are very difficult to face and overcome.

The first hug, Ms. Minh Anh sent to the teacher in the incident, hoping that she would overcome the psychological pressure, first of all her own, when returning to class. I hope she will not avoid herself when she falls into such a situation, I hope she will find love and confidence in her work again...

The second hug, Ms. Minh Anh sent to the student who misbehaved by grabbing her hair and knocking her down.

Her behavior was unacceptable, but Ms. Anh thought that the student was probably experiencing psychological instability and crisis. Her behavior toward the teacher was not necessarily due to her anger toward the teacher, but that context was just the last straw for some long-standing instability in her...

According to Ms. Minh Anh, with a student falling into instability, although it sounds very theoretical, the responsibility of the family and school is still to find solutions to support and educate , not to push the children further down. No matter what form of discipline or measure is applied to the children, it must still have elements of education and support.

This teacher also wanted to send a hug to the students in the class who witnessed the incident. The students in the class were silent at that time, some went to draw the curtain, and did not make any move to support the teacher...

According to Ms. Anh, if all the children behave like that, then maybe in that context, we or our children will react the same way. We are outsiders looking in to judge, not insiders experiencing the actual event.

At that time, children may be confused, bewildered, or have different thoughts or difficulties of adolescence...

She hugs them, because every day they learn a lot of things but maybe they haven't learned the basic ways to support others when they need help...

In the fourth hug, Ms. Le Minh Anh wants to hug and comfort herself, to hug the career and job that she has chosen to pursue for over 10 years.

After more than 10 years of teaching, Ms. Minh Anh admits that she has only experienced a part of the complex and unpredictable psychology of students during puberty. In particular, students are greatly influenced by the social and family context such as academic pressure, expectations, life and behavior of parents...

Ms. Minh Anh remembers and understands the words shared by a psychology expert when she came to the school to carry out a specialization on school life: "Many students now are like pressure cookers that are compressed, just need someone to touch them and they will explode immediately."

This complexity poses an unprecedented challenge to teachers in today's era. Teachers must understand the psychology of students; must constantly learn and improve their skills in dealing with situations in order to both educate and support students and protect themselves.

Regarding the incident of a student pulling a teacher's hair and knocking her down at Dai Kim Secondary School, Hanoi, the Ministry of Education and Training also emphasized that schools need to do a good job of educating students in ethics, awareness of law compliance, and respect for teachers.

In particular, according to the Ministry's leaders, schools need to pay attention to school psychological counseling, promptly detect cases of students showing abnormal psychological symptoms so that, together with their families, they can take appropriate care and education measures.
