Tuoi Tre Online received many complaints from parents of Vang Anh Kindergarten, District 5, Ho Chi Minh City about the school's tuition increase.
"On April 17, we were invited to a meeting by the school to get our opinions on the school's plan to increase tuition to VND7,870,000/month. At this meeting, most parents did not agree because business is currently very difficult.
After the COVID-19 pandemic, everything has not recovered to the way it was. The school has increased tuition fees so high that our children will have to transfer to another school," said Mr. T., a parent of Vang Anh Kindergarten.
The current fees are very high.

Similarly, Ms. HM, whose child is studying at Vang Anh Kindergarten, said: "Currently, the total monthly revenue of Vang Anh Kindergarten is more than double that of other public kindergartens. My child has to pay nearly 4 million VND per month. If the tuition fee increases now, how can we afford it?"
Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online on the morning of April 21, Ms. Lam Thi Thuy Loan, principal of Vang Anh Kindergarten, District 5, shared: "The parent meeting on April 17 was carried out by the school following the direction of management levels. This is a meeting to survey parents' opinions on implementing the 100% financial autonomy school model.
If parents agree, it will be officially implemented in the 2024-2025 school year. In addition to consulting with parents, we are also consulting with departments, organizations, and agencies around the school."
According to Ms. Loan, Vang Anh Kindergarten has implemented the advanced - integrated school model since 2016. By December 2023, the school was recognized by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee as meeting advanced - integrated standards according to new regulations.
Because of this model, the school charges higher tuition fees than other public kindergartens. However, the school only implements the advanced - integrated school model for kindergarten students. Currently, the total revenue for kindergarten students is about 3.7 million VND/month/student, including tuition fees and breakfast, lunch, snacks, etc.
As for kindergarten students, they do not follow the advanced - integrated school model, so the total revenue is about more than 2 million VND/month/student.
213/236 parents do not agree to increase tuition fees

According to Tuoi Tre Online 's research, the total revenue of public kindergartens in Ho Chi Minh City is only from 1.5 - 2.1 million VND/month/student depending on the school.
Many parents still want their children to study at Vang Anh Kindergarten. Because this is a national standard level 2 school, famous in Ho Chi Minh City for both the quality of child care and education and modern facilities.
According to the board of directors of Vang Anh Kindergarten, the school currently has 405 students. Of the 236 parents who completed the direct survey, only 16 agreed to increase tuition fees and agreed with the school implementing a 100% financial autonomy model. 213 parents disagreed, and 7 parents had no opinion.
In addition, out of 78 people who took the survey on Google form (these people belong to departments, organizations, and agencies in District 5), only 5 people agreed to increase tuition fees and agreed with the school implementing a 100% financial autonomy model. The remaining 73 people disagreed.
On the teachers’ side, 21/26 teachers agreed, while 5 teachers disagreed. These 5 teachers said that if the school increased tuition fees and implemented a 100% financial autonomy model, they would change jobs. Because when the State does not provide funding for the school, their income is not guaranteed to be stable.
