News of frost in Brazil helped coffee prices recover early in the week, but the impact of the weather conditions faded by the end of the week, prompting speculators to resume selling. In addition, the accelerated progress of the coffee harvest in Brazil also put downward pressure on prices.
In Vietnam, according to Reuters, domestic coffee prices continued to increase compared to last week, as many Vietnamese and Indonesian farmers were cautious in selling, hoping prices would continue to rise.
A trader in Dak Lak said: "Farmers currently do not want to sell because they expect the price to exceed VND100,000/kg."
Traders have also seen a slowdown in trading activity as many have shifted to buying coffee from Indonesia and Brazil, where prices are more competitive.
"The coffee harvest in Vietnam is expected to start in October, so I don't think farmers can hold on to their goods any longer," he added.
Additionally, flooding caused by tropical storm Wipha did not affect coffee growing areas, traders said.
“The rains are beneficial for coffee trees during the growing stage, and no farms have suffered damage due to floods,” another trader in Dak Lak commented.
