Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hung and Mr. Le Ba Khanh Trinh are famous for their achievements in training and nurturing many generations of excellent students at the Gifted High School, especially their achievements in the National Excellent Student Competitions and the International Math Olympiad and International Informatics Olympiad.
Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hung took on the role of Vice Principal of the Gifted High School from 2007 to 2018. This is considered one of the "golden" periods of the school with outstanding achievements not only domestically but also in international arenas.
During this period, students of the Gifted High School brought home 27 medals from regional and international Olympic competitions; 23 first prizes, 151 second prizes, 213 third prizes and 152 consolation prizes from national excellent student competitions.
Later, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hung resigned from his management position to focus on teaching. As the head of the IT team, Mr. Hung directly led the IT team of the Gifted High School to achieve brilliant results with 17 regional and international IT Olympiad medals (including 1 gold medal, 9 silver medals, 7 bronze medals); 17 first prizes, 71 second prizes, 110 third prizes, 57 consolation prizes at the national excellent student competition.

Meanwhile, Dr. Le Ba Khanh Trinh was famous since his school days with the title "golden boy of Vietnamese mathematics" (won first prize with a score of 40/40). and won a special prize for a unique solution in the 1979 International Mathematical Olympiad.
As the head of the math team at the Gifted High School, Dr. Le Ba Khanh Trinh directly led the math team to many outstanding achievements with 19 medals in the International Math Olympiad (including: 5 gold medals, 9 silver medals, 3 bronze medals and 2 honorary certificates); 171 national excellent student awards in math (including 14 first prizes, 47 second prizes, 63 third prizes, 47 consolation prizes).
Dr. Le Ba Khanh Trinh has left his position as head of the math group at the Gifted High School since March 2025; Meritorious teacher - Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hung will retire from August 2025.
According to the board of directors of the Gifted High School, Mr. Le Ba Khanh Trinh and Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hung will continue to accompany the school as consultants in the training and nurturing of excellent students in the coming time.
The Gifted High School was established in 1996 and is a specialized high school under the Ho Chi Minh City National University. The school's name does not include the word "high school" to distinguish it from other high schools under the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training.
After the merger, Ho Chi Minh City has 5 specialized high schools, of which 4 are under the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training and 1 is under the Ho Chi Minh City National University.
