A group of students from the High School for the Gifted - Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, including Le Dinh Vu Nguyen (group leader), Le Hoang Quan, and Truong Quoc Binh, recently completed a meaningful community project. The group organized a charity fundraising run while also raising awareness about traffic safety and culture.
From empathy to action
Group leader Vu Nguyen said they intended to launch the Stride For Lives project around May 2025, but hadn't yet found a suitable time to implement it. After reading the article "Heartbreaking plight of 3 orphaned children who sell lottery tickets while attending school" published in the Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper , the group decided they had to act immediately.

A group of young people visited the family of three children who were orphaned after their mother died in a traffic accident.
On October 26th, the first charity run was held with the participation of nearly 50 athletes. In a short time, the fundraising group raised 20 million VND along with gifts, snacks, and milk. On the same day, the group visited and presented the money to three young children selling lottery tickets in Ba Diem commune, Ho Chi Minh City.
"Before coming here, I was very curious about the lives of these children. Seeing it firsthand, I felt a great deal of sorrow and empathy. My biggest concern is how to ensure they have the opportunity to go to university and find jobs to support themselves," Nguyên confided.

Within a short period of time, the group raised 20 million VND in donations.

The youngest, Tieu Vy, clung to Vu Nguyen.
Despite losing their mother at a young age and having to sell lottery tickets to make a living, the three children were still able to attend school like their peers thanks to their aunt's care. Because of this experience, the three boys feel fortunate to have grown up in the loving embrace of their parents.
While playing with the younger children, Hoang Quan said, "I dream of becoming an engineer. Being an engineer means being connected to people's lives. You have to design things that are truly necessary for life. Participating in community projects helps me understand people's lives better."
For the group, these circumstances motivated them to study harder.
Raising awareness and working together for the community.
Watching her son and his group of friends working together, personally delivering gifts to those in need, Mrs. Le Thi Bay was moved, seeing how her son had grown up and learned to share love with many people.
"I strongly encourage young people to do these things. Through activities like these, our children become more mature, create some kind of impact on the community, and help make society better," Mrs. Bay shared.

In addition, Nguyen also has a computer science project, organizing free computer science classes for children at SOS Children's Villages and in An Giang province.
In the future, the group will implement more activities, with the main goal of raising community awareness about traffic safety. In addition, the group hopes for greater participation from young people to help those in difficult circumstances, especially victims of traffic accidents.
