A group of students from the High School for the Gifted - VNU-HCM, including Le Dinh Vu Nguyen (team leader), Le Hoang Quan and Truong Quoc Binh, has just carried out a meaningful community project. The group organized a running event to raise charity funds and at the same time raise awareness about traffic safety and culture.
From empathy to action
Team leader Vu Nguyen said he intended to launch the Stride For Lives project around May 2025, but had not yet found a suitable time to implement it. After reading the article "The heartbreaking situation of 3 orphaned children who both go to school and sell lottery tickets" published in the Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper , the team planned to take action immediately.

A group of young people visited the family of three children who lost their mother in a traffic accident.
On October 26, the first race was held with the participation of nearly 50 athletes. In a short time, the campaign group raised 20 million VND along with gifts of cakes and milk. On the same day, the group visited the homes and gave the money to 3 children selling lottery tickets in Ba Diem commune, Ho Chi Minh City.
“Before coming here, I was very curious about their lives. When I saw it with my own eyes, I felt a lot of pity and sympathy. What I worry about most is how to give them the conditions to go to university and find jobs to support themselves,” Nguyen confided.

In a short time, the group raised 20 million VND.

Although their mother died early and they had to sell lottery tickets to make a living, thanks to their aunt's care, the three children were still able to go to school like their peers. From this situation, the three boys feel lucky to have grown up in the loving arms of their parents.
While playing with the child, Hoang Quan said: “I dream of becoming an engineer. And to be an engineer, you have to be involved in people’s lives. You have to design things that are really necessary for life. Participating in community projects helps me understand more about people’s lives.”
For the group, it was these circumstances that motivated them to try harder in their studies.
Raising awareness, joining hands for the community
Seeing her child and friends working and personally giving gifts to people in difficult circumstances, Ms. Le Thi Bay was moved because her child had grown up and knew how to share love with many people.
“I highly encourage young people to do these things. Through activities like this, your children will grow up, have some influence on the community, and help make society better,” Ms. Bay shared.
